2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

i don't follow juco. any qbs in the juco ranks that we might look at?
Only one I'm familiar with currently is McLane Carter at Tyler Junior College. Was the MVP of the conference this year, led the country in passing yards and pass yards per game. Has an offer from Tech and is officially visiting Lubbock this weekend.

Strong and Co... failed to develop many a player. Heard being just one glaring example.
Wait... Foreman, Connor Williams, Ford, And many others actually developed.

Did a few regress this year? Yes... but I do remember reading that scouts and former players being quoted that the program was starting to look like a true Texas program from that standpoint.

I believe that more than anything execution (tackling), defense, and poor game management is what got Strong fired.

Spoke with my friend today who told me Browning would go to OSU. He said Browning agreed to delay his decision until he met with the new Texas coach. However, Herman had not hired a DC and couldn't answer Browning when he asked "who will I be playing for?"

It was a good meeting, but it didn't move his needle at all. By the time Orlando was hired, it was too late.

Unfortunately, more recruiting heartbreaks to come this cycle. Will have some good, but maybe next year we're back to #errbody...

Baron Browning to Ohio State. That one stings for me. By far my favorite recruit and player in the class.
*sigh* I hope this time next year we are looking at 9-10 wins and won't have to worry about OOS programs getting the big time players from Texas.

I'm not sure having a DC in place would have mattered in this one.

I expected to take a hit with the 2017 class. I am just glad Strong is gone because none of the top talent was coming this year. Kids are smart today and they could all tell they were not going to get the coaching they needed at Texas as long as Strong was here. The long term health of the program is far more important and I think we will be fine moving forward. If anyone is interested in Hearing what Inside Texas Justin Well had to say about Strong. Recruiting, and Herman here is the link from my interview with him last night.

Justin said what many have been saying for a while. Strong is a terrible coach

Lots of the current players were frustrated and knew they were not being coached well.

Disagree on the notion that talent wasn't coming here as long as Strong was here. If Texas had won on the field this year he would still be here and recruiting would be fine.

The on field performance and instability ultimately made it easy for players to go elsewhere.

Well yeah that winning thing seemed to be pretty hard for a Strong coached team.

Charlie was really good at selling a vision to recruits but after 3 years of sub .500 and a loss to Kansas the recruits saw the reality.

If you think Herman is going to come in here and pull a top 5 class this year you are drunk on the media koolaid.

You are contradicting yourself a bit. We weren't winning on the field with Charlie Strong as coach. That's why they weren't coming here this year. Betting on the come for three years was too damn much. And it was a losing bet.

Let me rephrase. I disagree that talented players weren't coming here AT ALL because of Strong being the head coach. Recruits were still prepared to give Texas and Strong a shot until this season derailed despite what happened in the previous two.

And I will say this again, I don't think Strong is suddenly a horrible coach because of how things played out in Austin. Things just didn't work out.

"Recruits were still prepared to give Texas and Strong a shot until this season derailed despite what happened in the previous two. "

That's my point. This season did happen. Three strikes and you're out.

The recruiting class was going to be bad with Charlie Strong. It may or may not be better with Herman.
