Directors Cup Thread

Also looks like the Women's Golf team just hired a new Head Coach who has previously won a Natty. Hopefully they get us even more points next year.
2018 natty. Has been up and down since then, a few DNQs for NCAA championships but also some deeper runs than Texas.

Men's Track with a solid meet and finished 12th.

Stanford would have to take 2nd or better in W Track with our team failing to add any more points in the track meet.

It's not clinched quite yet but in reality it has been since last weekend.

So how do you see next year playing out? Texas' road will be more difficult, but what about Stanford's move to the ACC? Does that become more difficult for them?

Hard to say.

Texas has such a hill to climb to start each year with the way the cup is set up. I can't stress enough how amazing it is that they are winning this thing to begin with.

The move to the SEC doesn't necessarily affect the directors cup, except in sports where the SEC competition may keep us from making post-season tournaments. That could be true in baseball - though it's a double edged sword. The SEC sent something like 13 teams to regionals so even being middle of the road in the SEC may be enough. Basketball won't be tougher than big12 was. Softball and volleyball may be harder but our teams are elite so it won't matter. Football has a strong case to make the playoff even if 3rd or 4th in conference.

For Stanford, I am curious how well their travel sports do. Some sports, conference doesn't matter much until time for conference championship. Ex, track/rowing/golf - all the teams just go compete whereever the want throughout the regular season. For sports like volleyball, will players want to fly to New Jersey once a year to play Rutgers? Baseball, basketball, etc - the travel may just be too much.

Directors' Cup Roundup:
Volleyball (#8) - Texas Volleyball off to a slow start to the season with loses to #18 Minn, Miami and swept by #2 Stanford. Not uncommon for them to drop a few early season games as coach Elliot tinkers with rotations. Currently less confident that the team can turn it completely around like in years passed but I don't doubt JE can pull it off. This may not be a NC team but Elite 8 has become the standard.

Soccer (#4/#11)- 7-0-1 to start the season, toughest competition has been #24 Iowa who they tied. Best defender, EMJ Cox is out for the season and currently top striker, Trinity Byars, is out with a leg injury of uncertain duration. Lexi Missimo has put her name in the history books with 50 career goals and assists. SEC play starts this week against Bama and #24 Miss St. Arkansas at #3 is the only other ranked team.

Men's CC (#24) - #2 in the region (top 2 regional teams advance to NCAAs automatically) and #3 in the SEC.

Women's CC - UR, not even listed in the top 5 in the region. Perhaps our most disappointing squad on campus right now. I am not sure if it is purposeful, due to the way Track scholarships are used - more for our top notch women's Track and Field team while withholding from the CC team?

Football - well, you all know about that already.

Softball secured commitments from the #2 and #5 2026 players, a middle IF and P, this weekend. Another reminder that a good football team and home football environment can also have positive impacts on other sports as well. Coach White is building a beast on the diamond.
