I can honestly say I didn’t know anyone famous while at UT, though I did ride on a Jester elevator with Ken Hackemack (he took up most of the elevator), and an elevator with Tommy Penders Jr at Belmont. I also had a ballroom dancing class with Dorsey Tierney (women’s diving) my last semester there.
I took an elevator ride with LaSalle Thompson back in the day. Tall dude. I also met Jam Jones while running laps on the intermural field.

I was in a discussion group with Justin Tucker for an english class.

Rick Barnes stopped by my tailgate years ago with some good looking blonde reporter. It took us a bit to realize he was there because the lady reporter was getting all the attention.

My buddy and I were drinking a beer far outside the Cotton Bowl (we got it from his car because the beer line was way too long) vs Miss St during Ricky's last season. Tony Dorsett came walking up to us and just started BS'ing with us. We offered him a beer but he politely declined. Let's just say he was already in a pretty good mood. :sneaky:

I know some ex-players but none who are famous.

Back in the day I got a free dinner at an El Chico in Dallas because the staff believed I was Brian Bosworth even after I told them I was not him. True story.
When they told me dinner was free I stopped denying it and signed a couple of autographs 😂
Similar, one of my closest friends and I picked up two girls because they thought we were Troy Aikman and Jay Novacek. I will admit we did look them in the face, but I'm only 5'9" and my friend was 5'10" we drove a Toyota truck and VW Golf, respectively. We didn't tell them otherwise, but we also didn't say we were. I miss the days of no Internet or cell phones.

Not quite part of the spirit this thread is going right now, but my mom would fix their hideous TV dinners almost every week.

The DE from Stanford, David Baily, that we were flirting with has chosen Texas Tech, who threw all kinds of money at him.

We chose not to play that game at a position where we have abundant depth and talent. We'll spend on positions of need.

We have a price and don't seem to go above that for players. Sark discussed this very thing in the Colt McCoy interview. Building a strong locker room culture.

No offense but I would have been pissed if someone mistook me for a young Brian Bosworth. 🤣

He was a bada$$ though in his younger days!

I met Bosworth and didn't even know it at the time. It was in Baghdad in 2010. I got out of work and walked over to the DFAC to grab a quick bite then head to my CHU. While there, I saw Barry Switzer signing autographs. Being a Cowboys fan, I said why not. I walked over to shake hands and say hello. Before I got to Barry, I bumped into another guy and he turned to me with a greet. I thought he was very nice. I wasn't a soldier, but he asked me how long have I been out here and general small talk. I finally got to Barry and said hello. Afterwards I asked my colleague who that other guy was and that's when I found out it was Bos. I swear it didn't look like him up close or at least what I remembered of him. Also, he seemed smaller in person, but it was him and Barry doing an Iraq tour.

Bosworth is also the sheriff in the Dr Pepper commercials.

A friend of mine was on the Texas football team and played against him a couple of times. He told me that he was one bad mofo and wreaked havoc on the Texas offense.

Several years ago (87, I think) riding a plane from DFW to Tulsa, my dad asked me if I knew the guy sitting in the first row of coach. When we got up to exit the plane, I turned around and it was Earl Campbell. We walked up the ramp together chatting about husbanding days. He asked me to hold his spit cup as he signed an autograph. In hindsight, I should have asked him to sign the spit cup.lol

That was a great trip to a Ranger game. Got Roger Staubach’s autograph, Bill Wennington, and D.D. Lewis all on that trip. Mr. Lewis laughed when I admitted to not recognizing him. He said, “most people don’t when I’m raffling with Earl.” 😂

I sat down with Earl and TIm Campbell in a Tyler bar and had a beer with them once. One of several brushes with greatness.

I once owned a gym. One Sunday, just a handful of people in the gym. In walks Jim Jeffcoat, Hershell Walker and Todd Fowler. I worked out with them.

Got a photo of myself and Roger Staubach. I was at a SuperCollider (Waxahachie, DeSoto) function and he was the guest speaker.

Back in 2000, I used miles (back when they were worth something) to upgrade to first class to and from England. On the way back, Roger Staubach and his wife sat in the row in front of my wife and me. The chairs swiveled all the way around, so we ended up talking with them for a good part of the flight. He’s a very nice guy.
