McPhaul... El Mahico on OB claiming new leader?

"I have no idea about the Vegas odds."

Did you mean to say you have no idea how Vegas odds work or you have no idea what they are? The odds are +550/-1000. This means you would make $550 for every $100 you bet if you believe saban is coming to texas. If you don't think saban is coming to texas, in order to make $100, you would have to bet $1000. Those are some very long and telling odds.

Mack isn't coming back. If he returns I swear I won't post on this or any other site for the entire season. There's not a chance in hell that Mack is allowed to return next season. It's just not feasible unless the powers to be just completely want to run this program 6 feet under. One more year of Mack would massacre any chances of recruiting and leave the cupboard even more bare for whoever replaces him. It's incomprehensible at this point.
That said, as much as I want Saban and want to believe I just don't see how the logistics work. Mack isn't going to be on board. He wants nothing to do with a coach that is going to come in and make him look like the incompetent coach that he is. So he's not going to sit around until nearly the 2nd week of January to give us cover without a coach. If he says he's going to retire following the Tech game like has been rumored how are we going to be able to keep Saban under wraps for an entire month while the biggest job in the country is open? I just don't see how that can happen. ESPN and every other major sports news carrier are going to have people staking out Austin to keep tabs on whats going on. And with so many admins potentially fixing to lose their job when Mack leaves you don't think they are going to look to sabotage a potential deal with someone Mack doesn't want replacing him? Their loyalties are with Mack, not Texas, and they will anonymously leak BS every other day.

The best thing that could happen is Auburn beating Alabama in the Iron Bowl and ended Saban's quest for a 3rd straight title. A 'Bama loss in that game basically renders any bowl game they play in as meaningless, especially since a loss to Auburn would put the Tigers in the SEC title game and potentially knock Bama completely out of the BCS. That would allow Saban to move to Austin much quicker and on a much more reasonable timetable.

But I guess if Patterson could potentially look to the NFL for Mack's successor (Harbaugh? Harbaugh? Tomlin?) the earliest that we could hire one of those guys would be the end of December so it's only a week earlier anyway. Given his ties to the NFL I don't know if that would be a bad option either. So maybe waiting another week or two wouldn't be all that bad as it is.
Im not so sure Mack comes out before the Tech game, but it wouldnt shock me. I think he would still be coaching UT through a bowl game, so its not like he's gone right after the Baylor game. From what I gather his deal to go out with a "parade" rather than the pinebox route wouldnt be without some strings attached. Im not sure Mack's personal feelings on Saban would really matter. What would he do? After the bowl UT will go through the public process of the search committe yadda yadda. Lots of names will be floated. UT will prob interview several etc. I guess I just dont see a huge issue with a few weeks time period after UT is done with its bowl game, and they are in "official" coach search mode would cause for the Saban deal. Either UT think's he's coming or they dont. Im sure he would be asked some questions about the Texas opening, but those are pretty easily deflated considering he would have a game to discuss way more than that

As students of history we all know that it repeats itself........On the AD search for months is was Luck or bust and then at the last minute it was Patterson. Now to the HC search, for months it has been Saban or bust.......can we expect the same old bait and switch here as well. Saban is going to be our next HC right up to the point where it is going to be someone else that is clearly out of the blue, if recent history holds true.

Will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

I agree that could be the plan.

Which are?
11/2 that Saban comes to Texas. Not very good odds at all. But they're Vegas odds...for a coach search...I take it with a grain of salt.

I agree the timing of Mack's announcement affects the search. I'm also not sure how he could announce after the Baylor game and the entire coaching search is kept hush hush for a month. I think if there's an announcement by banquet weekend, it means Saban is a negative. If there's no announcement by the bowl game, then it leads to me believe Saban could be a possibility with Mack going along with the plan.

orangeman, no offense but your reasons for why he's staying at Alabama are pretty much all off base. We've been talking to the man for over a year at this point. Of course, we didn't approach him...he approached us. This has all happened through informal but very powerful channels. Although he's currently the highest paid coach at Alabama he has still lost approximately $30m since he's been at Alabama and only has a net worth of about 2-3 years salary. We'll take that compensation to a whole other level....with the bulk of it being in the form of off the books investments that the 'Bama guys can't touch that will erase his financial issues in 8 digit fashion. We've already agreed to provide him a budget for hiring his staff that blows the doors off what Alabama agreed to and his staff is currently receiving. He wife and kids would much prefer to be in Austin than Tuscaloosa. His wife has already bought a house in Austin. He'll have an opportunity to do something historic here in terms of winning MNC's at 3 different schools with more resources at his disposal than he could get anywhere else. Plus we just hired his first choice as our athletic director to work with him. You may not realize this but this thing is pretty much a done deal outside of somebody screwing it up at this point. Do you really think a guy like McPhaul would go out on a limb and say Saban to Texas is 100% at this point if that wasn't the case? This thing is VERY real and as of today it's nothing more than a 6 week countdown till it's announced after Saban completes his goal for this season of winning his 3rd consecutive MNC.

Put a bow on it. That wraps it up.

Good talk, Russ.

If he announces, he allows it to leak within hours after the Tech game and confirms it over that weekend before the Baylor game. He is going to need everything he can get from the team if he wants to beat Baylor. Get the guys fired up to give Mack one last win and then the bowl game is a big send-off. The month of Dec is the "official" new hire search and if its not Saban, the new guys is announced the week before the MNC game. The new guy is going to want to be in place asap for recruiting purposes and to get his assistants in place. If Mack doesn't announce before Baylor, I'd start worrying that he is going to try to stay.

It's not that I believe theirs more than ours.its that it's not even being talked about and something like this would be talked about by both sides if there were any truth.its also public record that they bought a house in Baton Rouge last year too but you don't see LSU fans jumping to conclusions.its also a known fact that their son lives in Austin and recently got married. A wedding gift perhaps? The ap only reported what they know that they spoke and that was it.if they were still speaking it would have been in the ap by now and not relegated to ut forums. There is no proof that they have lost a substantial amount of money. That's another claim made only on the forums. My agenda is simple. Don't get my hopes up for something that has no evidence beyond the fact that his agent was approached by us, he listened, and obviously Saban said if I were to move UT would be it. That in no way means that he ever intends to do so. I'll get into a frenzy when we are given something substantial and verifiable. Insiders at paysites.there have an Agenda. That's getting ut brethren to join their sites for this insider information. That's worth it with recruits but with coaches that have clauses were the coaches institution must be asked permission to speak to said coach it would be well known by both camps that there are talks.since it's only our boards I think we are the ones getting played.
Actually, you and I both are wrong. The only thing that is on record, is the meeting between Hall and Sexton and the meeting between him, Hicks and Mack. Everything else, including the house, is strictly rumor based on unsubstantiated "sources".

So in this aspect, I agree with you.
