Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Just saw where Sark and his wife are getting a divorce. This has the potential to be really bad news. 😔

He seems to really love being the Texas head coach, but all the demands must put significant strains on a marriage, so I guess maybe we shouldn't be too surprised.

A lot of successful football coaches get divorced. I don't know what the rate is, but I am sure it is up there.

Gerry Hamilton ranked the Texas DL (in order) today.

1. Alfred Collins
2. Jermayne Lole
3. Jarray Bledsoe
4. Alex January

He listed the rest as role players
Bill Norton
Tia Savea
Vernon Broughton
Aaron Bryant

Said behind Norton, Bryant is the second best anchor DL on the team.

Said Bledsoe, pound for pound, may be the best athlete on the team.

Melvin Hills has really impressed, but needs some work on technique. They expect a redshirt for him

Sydir Mitchell was lisited last and more or less said there's not much hope here unless he makes some changes.

No world beaters here. Line up is prerty "meh". Hoping for the best here.

I'll disagree on that.

Collins is a proven commodity with now another year of experience and playing for the draft spot.

I've long heard that Bledsoe was the best DL we had and just needed to add weight. Well, he added the weight. I'm excited to see what he can do.

Lole is the best of the bunch, Hamilton says. He was out last year and has had three surgeries. So they plan to limit him prior to the season while also giving him some beneficial minutes. Hamilton says this guy is a stud.

I will say, I'll take meh DT and 1st and 2nd round DEs everyday over the opposite (studs across the board preferred of course).

I think these DTs are very capable at coming in waves at OL and holding their own, eating blocks, etc. Won't have as many splash plays but thats okay.

Agreed.

Chris Ash (whom I had a man-crush on as DC) said Collins is the most talented DL he's ever had... which is high praise since he was at tOSU during some pretty good years. Collins and Lole have "draftable NFL grades" right now. The other seniors are likely NFL free agent types.

I've heard the same of Bledsoe.... his athleticism for his size is supposedly ridiculous.

I'd rank this as "meh plus-plus," at least.

I was just reading about our new PWO. A kid named Hudson Powell. He’s a WR/TE who is 6’-7” and weighs either 200 or 240 depending on which article you believe. Soft hands, good feet and ran a laser-timed 4.53 40.

Surprise, surprise, surprise about January. At this time last year he was considered a project at the very least. Now he might burn his shirt.

Here's a couple interesting notes from Inside Texas:

Starting edges (formerly known as defensive ends) day 1: Barryn Sorrell and Trey Moore. This will likely be a rotation of several players. Moore may play some LB as well - to get more pass rushers on the field situationally.

Starting corners just might be: Muhammad (field) Barron (boundary). This is possible because Gillbeau has been lighting it up for some time now at nickel.

DL overall is going to be interesting to watch, I think both the tackle and edge position will see a rotation of 6ish players depending on opponent and game situation.

I heard an unsubstantiated rumor that Mitchell looks to be in better shape. This would be a big development. Norton is the only other true "nose type." Maybe Bryant - but he may be a year away.

Edit - not sure about January??
