Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Anyone questioning the competitor or work ethic of Quinn Ewers, go listen to the Flagship podcast where they interveiwed his high school coach.

QE came back early from injury his Junior year to try to help his team win state... I don't know that any of his issues this year are related to lack of competitiveness.

Maybe your eyesight is part of the problem with your typing. I know for sure that your typing is not good. Not sure about your eyes; but there seems to be a problem there as well.
My eyes might not be 20-20 and typing not so good.

But I stayon subject and when it lookslike loseing do no insult posters.

That said I will not respond to your posts if you do the same. Hookum

Sark states repeatedly that QE is an intense competitor with a cool head--QB qualities that he admires, perhaps because that's the kind of QB Sark was. Considering Sark spends significant time with QE most days, that assessment is good enough for me. Looking forward to QE's future success.

Duggin was playing for a shot at a natty....huge incentive. Ewers was playing for undefeated against Alabama till hurt.

Different incentives....

IT has a good free article 5 things Texas needs to improve on to win Big 12

Didclaimer #1 will not be liked by most.?

Texas has two other QBS Ewers is not the only one. Why not defend them?
The other two are not being called out as non-competitors. I will admit that in the last couple games I was not thrilled with some of QE's body language. I do not attribute that to a lack of competitiveness but rather a lack of maturity on how to demonstrate leadership to teammates. All leaders have an adjustment and growth period. Whether by choice or circumstance, QE has been in the spotlight for a while now and heralded as  the next "great thing". Add to that the public NIL, Lambo, etc. and it is a different situation for any 17-19 year old kid to navigate. If MM or CW were in similar spotlight, I have not doubt that there would be some question aspects of their character and they would be discussed on a fan board as well. If they were, I'd offer the same sentiment for them.

As other have stated, I am glad there was not cell phones or the same social media driven circus when I was his age. I'd suggest a year of maturity will provide a lot of good both on and off the field for Quinn.

Yeah as I got older my parents got a lot wiser!

And for the record I never called Ewers as a competor. That was another poster who assimed I did and rushed to hid defense.

I wish Texas had a QB as comperive as Duggan and Rising. original statement. I belive this does nor single out Ewers.

Read the article. Very fair.

And I think you underestimate the critical thinking level of most posters on this board when it comes to point #1. You actually sounded like another poster on this board when you said that ?

Pretty sure #1 goes without saying as all successful high achieving football teams require more consistent QB play than we had this season. In fact, I'd guess that media outlets for every team that doesn't win it all this year will point to #1 as an area of need. The preoccupation with Quinn Ewers on both sides seems to polarize the discussion more than necessary. #1 is relevant to whoever fills the QB role on every fb team ever.

One constant in highly successful college football teams is that their QB is an experienced upperclassman (as well as all positions, btw). We're not there yet, but are on the right track. Patience is in order while the pipeline of experienced talent gets built at all positions.

Bryce Young was a Sophomore when he won the Heisman and the NC, Trevor Lawrence was an underclassman when Clemson won it. VY was a junior

I guess I don't understand our level of expectations for QB play and team play. Texas finished exactly where most of us thought they would at 8-4.  We expected QE to have good games and bad games.  He had an awful game against OkSt in his 1st true road game and another really bad game against the #3 team in the country.

I fully expect the game to slow down for him next year and for him to feel more comfortable with a more experienced OL in front.  Without question, they will miss Bijan and Rojo, but the OL experience will make it feel like a smaller drop off, imo.

A team can cover up many of its deficiencies but at QB it is magnified.  IMO as the QB goes so will go the team with wins and losses.  I am not saying that its all on the QB but more than not that postion is the rudder for the team.   To me the QB does not matter as far as name, personality, or NIL is concerned.  It is all about production at the position.  I think at times I have been a little too critical of Quinn because the expectations put on him by me and everyone else were way to high.  Can he still be a great QB?  Absolutely, but I do believe that he will have to show progress early on or there will be a QB controversy to be had, especially with Sark opening up the QB competition next year.  IMO that speaks volumes about his concern for the progress of Quinn up til now.  I hope they figure it out because to compete we must have a well developed QB whether that be Quinn, Malik, or Arch.

I think both Bryce and Trevor had a pretty veteran line (and team) around them.  In a lot of their highlights, they had a pretty clean pocket and had pretty wide open receivers they were throwing to.  Like texbound said, let's have a little bit of patience and see how this team looks when our OL is more experienced and well as the rest of the team.

If Ewers or Card had time in the pocket, they both would look like pretty good QBs
