ETX, Tfloss or anyone that knows, how many scholarships are currently available as of today?

I was tracking them at 82 (3 available already), 8 scholarship athletes heading to the portal right now (not including Ben Ballard), 16 Srs, Bijan and maybe JWhitt for around 28 or 29.  Does that seem about right?
Counting the players who are returing, I count 80 (this with the 21 commitments). So that leaves 5 spots.

Sure a few more will leave and some srs. will comeback.

Then this year and next here is no restrictions on number of signees. Take all you want. Just have be at 85 come august.

Looking at the QB play for the Big12 championship I have to admit I am a bit concerned.  We have Ewers with an elite arm for sure but he is seems to be lacking in his work ethic.  I cannot say for sure because I have no inside info on his practices but just looking at his body language, lack of awareness, and the reliance strictly on his arm talent and not good mechanics I have serious doubts about his development. Then there is Malik which I hear has a great arm as well but is very green and would likely be over his head in a game.  Next Charles Wright who just does not have the level of talent that is needed.  And last Arch who no doubt will be a good QB at some point but likely is not ready for the speed at the college level.  The question is should we look for a seasoned reliable QB on the portal?  Basically what we lost in Hudson. If Ewers fails to develop or gets hurt I just don’t think we have what is needed at the position.  Feel free to enlighten me and squash my concerns at QB for next year.

Ewers is what he is. Manning is as ready as a freshman can be. Gets to go through spring practices.

Just wish Texas has a competer like Duggan or Rissing borh have that will to win.

Glad you said it because I was thinking what our record would have been with a QB like Duggan.  You can tell he plays as if winning is the only thing that matters.  Wow we could use that at Texas.  Sam was the same way.

2 questions in response:

1. Did either of those QBs perform at their current level as freshman or RS freshman?

2. Do you believe he reached the level he is without a decent work ethic?

There are certainly things he needs to fix but comparing him to players that have been in college 3-4 years is silly in my opinion: also a little bit judgement to believe he doesn’t or won’t work hard to fix his errors.

Important to remember the experience of all those QBs and the respective rosters.

Not a surprise the most veteran teams in the conference are in the championship.

Duggan - Senior
Howard - Junior
Martinez - Senior

I don’t think the question is relevant.  Everyone always tries to use examples of other players or teams to draw parallels with others.  Most times the dynamics of each situation is different because you are dealing with young men with differing personalities and approaches to the game.  My point was that Ewers relies strictly on his arm talent to try and make plays so he lacks in mechanics.  You could use the word lazy QB.  He thinks that he can make it all happens just with his arm.  We do not know how he will develop but normally the great QB’s get better as the season goes on.  I hope that this happens with Quinn next year because that will make us a better football team.  But if he doesn’t I don’t know where we go from there at the QB position.

Please go back and reread my post.I only said competer no comparison of skill I belive Duggan and Rising were competers as freshmen. Thats some thing you have or do not.

Pretty sure I wasn’t responding to your post. Unless of course I started the Hill signing celebration early and am completely confused. Which is entirely possible.?

Both those guys are seniors. How many games have they played ? Plenty.
when Ewers has that much experience you will find out how wrong you are

And you did say “I wish Texas has a competer” which implies Ewers is not a competitor

Speaking of experienced QB's, Cam Rising is 23 years and 6 months old.

Probably safe to say that Duggan has always been a competitor.

But Rising has been in college 5 years now and has only played the last 2 years. Not sure anyone knows how much of a competitor he was as a freshman.

I'm seeing Rising listed as a junior but he is also 23 1/2 years old.

I understand everyone's frustrations and the want for immediate results, but please remember that Sark, Ewers and Co. weren't here 13 years ago. They need time to sort out their own issues and gain some on field experience. Vince and Colt sat their first year too. We're headed in the right direction.

if HC transfers out do you honestly think some QB would come to Texas in the hopes of sitting on the bench, makes no sense at all, do you think MM or CW are going to stick around to be QB3 and QB4
