2019 Recruiting Board/Thread

Sorry my friend, I can't agree with you on this one. Foles was another. When recruits pop up under your umbrella you have to nail them down unless you're dealing with a legacy.
I don't think you're as married to that philosophy as you think. There's no way, as HC of Texas, you'll drop a schollie on a 2 or 3 star QB just because he's local when you're in on 4 and 5 star prospects.

What are you going to do? Sorry, Cam Rising, we had an undersized three star here locally we thought we just had to take?

I get what you’re saying, but this isn’t as straight forward a you’re trying to make it. It’s easy to say this in hindsight, but there it’s much more complicated in real time.

Am I think only on here wh hopes Houston doesn’t pick Texas? I don’t want more commits at this time unless they are top tier guys. (And yes DH could be a top tier guy for coaches and coaches know more than me, etc, etc.......let’s move past that).

I think we need to keep more non tier 1 guys warm Bc I feel we will have a very good year and then I don’t want to be full. At least wait until the end of September if possible. DH is a good WR but he isn’t all world. I personally think J Ellis is better. I want to wait on him also. I don’t want to be full.

If we have a very good year on the field, possible if not probable(9-3), I don’t want to look at Higgins and say sorry no more room.

If Herman, is willing to pull schollies then fine, but has hasn’t shown that in the past and it’s not something I am a fan of doing Bc it can screw u in the future. So imo the much better option is we love ur game , want to see some senior film and want you to take an OV later this year and stay on the kid but hold off the commitment. Yes tricky situation but , if we do well that could be amazing in December when Bur, Dylan, Higgins, Tongue want to come on board. This goes for all positions.

I was very pissed we didn’t offer D White at LB last year be I think he will be a great Rover LB but I can live with that over Bru wanting to commit in decmenber and we already have 4-5 Wr commits.

Guys like Bru aren't worried about those recruit numbers. He knows what the pecking order will be when he arrives. If anything someone else may decommit if Bru comes on board.

Guys like Higgins, McCoy, or Wright aren’t getting turned away no matter who is committed if/when they want in. Same probably can’t be said for Ellis and Tongue depending on how some things shake out. It’s a tricky thing to navigate, but you have to trust the staff on this.

Also, McCoy likely isn’t a WR long term, so I wouldn’t worry about him mucking up the numbers at that position. He’s a linebacker, but just doesn’t realize it yet.

Is it fair to say Daniel that it's a close tight knit race with McCoy right now? Depending on how this season turns out?.. I don't feel too good about Higgins and with Wright.. I like where we sitting at with him..

But if u already have 5 committed at WR, ur right there is no order, we are full. And yes u can count him as an athlete but we won’t be able to take much more than 25 if that this year so when u take a Caldwell, Houston, plus a couple more youndont have the luxury to take 28 commits in 2019.

You and I think he is a LB but if he is mainly getting recruited at WR and if we already have 5 committed we don’t have the numbers to take more than 25 this year if that.

Bru is just an example as is the WR position. If December if we are 10-2 and Wilson, Wright, Higgins and Washington are all knocking on the door and we have taken(2 tier 1 guys in Whittington and Smith) and Houston, Ellis then u can’t take other players who all imo are better and coaches think they are better also.

McCoy was on record recently saying Texas is recruiting him to play both, but most schools Recruiting him know his NFL upside is on defense.

You can remove Wilson from the equation because I don’t see him back tracking from his OSU pledge. But if Texas is 10-2 and elites are begging to get in the boat then that’s not the worst scenario to be in. Lets cross that bridge when we get to it.

Pumped for Houston! No offense to @TheContractor but I think Houston is good! Top 200 prospect and can also play on the outside. Kid is a stud!

Not worried about him causing others to look elsewhere. If they want in you find room. There is always a way for a stud.

What the hell do we have to do to land a lineman?
Seems like we slow play the (not obvious 5 star) lineman, at least on the DL last year, which probably has something to do with how they are growing and changing as 16-17 year old kids.

It would be a huge mistake to wait until September. What if you win and they still don't come?

Secondly, the staff is getting who the staff wants. So I think we're making an assumption in thinking we're settling with who we've taken vs who is still out there.

You can't play your recruiting season based on the assumption that you'll win, on the assumption that winning will cause players committed elsewhere to reconsider and change to Texas. When was the last time that really happened to any team?

Houston is a 4-star. Thats a very good pick up. And he serves the role Wilson would've played here. Houston wanted to be a Horn. Wilson wanted to be a Buckeye. Give me Houston every single day.

Going forward, who do you guys feel like will be a part of this class?  Seems a little murky going forward.  Only ones I feel good about now are Catalon and Shepherd.  Looks like next month we'll know about Tongue and Davis.  Win the USC game and things start to get fun.

The staff is being patient and trying to maximize the class. It’s been said from the beginning they didn’t want to just take bodies for the sake of filling spots.
