Tom Herman

I'll pass on Fedora, NC defense has given up well over 400 yards in every game and 600+ to FSU this past weekend, not much difference than what's going on here now. Don't forget the egg NC layed against Baylor last year in the bowl game as well.
And I think Gene Chizik is the DC there.

Not to rain on your guy's parade but you don't think LSU can't match the money? Are we talking about paying upwards of $7 million/year for a coach who has only been a head coach for 18 games?
Texas is the better job. I've read a number of articles where they were naming some of the names LSU would hire and most of them thought the Herman would turn down LSU because of the AD and the administration. I don't know much about that except they looked like a bunch of clowns when they fired Les last year and then had to hire him back. All because he beat the aggies.

The only team blue blood team UT would have to compete against would be USC if their smart enough to fire Clay. However, Herman has spent 13 out of his 17 years as a coach in the state of Texas including as a GA at Texas under Greg Davis. Herman was here for the Chris Simms recruiting class which was number one in the nation.

If UT wants him then I doubt Herman would turn us down.

This may be crazy or already mentioned (haven't read all the pages here), but what if Chip Kelly is available?  Much more proven at the college level than Herman?

I hope not, primal d.  I think Perrin is a coaches' AD.  I have forgotten how many coaches USC has had in the last 10 years.  We have had 2 in 17 years.  For some reason, this just wasn't the right fit for Charlie, be it time, situation, or whatever.

If all of this is true, Charlie, thank you for everything you have done, and thank you for doing it with class and grace under fire.  May everything good come your way in the future.

Hook 'em!

Why would herman come to UT?

Legit question. His team is more talented, its HIS team with HIS guys and he is making huge head way into recruiting.

I agree with the question about why would Herman come to Texas. He turned down the opportunity to interview when he was an assistant at O st.  Now he is never going to win anything at cougar high but he will get offers from big buck colleges like lsu and who knows this early in the season.

Maybe he is a good enough coach to know there was no way he wanted to step into the mess Mack left. Maybe he can see Strong has at least recruited some potential athletes that just need coaching.  I have no clue what Herman's motivation for career success is. He may fit at Texas, the money guys will figure that out.

I just want him gone from cougar high so they go back to the hole they have been in since the SWC fiasco. We don't need any fricking commuter schools in the Big 12.

Better timing

Replacing a CFS with a losing or mediocre overall record will be easier than replacing a legend like Mack Brown.

I agree with Red. It doesnt hurt to get it over with. If anything it gives us time to send a message to any coach out there that we will be available when the season ends or sooner.

Our recruiting is already shot dead moving forward

24 hours at Houston: Behind the scenes as Tom Herman preps the Cougars for chaos

Herman thought he would have weeded players out by now, but that's not the case, so he addresses the departures with the team by selling testimony from 2015 about the benefits of persevering.

"I had one guy actually say to me on his way out, 'You know, coach, I get your culture, but this culture is not for everybody,'" Herman says. "You're [expletive] right it's not! This is not a 7-5 culture. This is a championship culture, and you're either with us or you're against us.
