*****TEXAS vs. KANSAS GAME THREAD*****

I realize KU is better than we thought they were. They gave OU fits, too.

But we're clearly not playing even adequate defense. Its not players. Its scheme. We surrender the outside like it's swamp land real estate.

Some notes . . .

– Overshown played a very good game. He needs to play more.

– Our CBs continue to get abused. Once in every 10 passes they make a play.

– Byron Hobbs played some good football tonight.

– Our OL is simply not playing well. At all.

– Dicker is nails under pressure. Love that kid.

– Glad to see we have a TE who can catch. This was new.

– I thought Ingram played better than previous weeks.

– Ossai was everywhere. We need 10 more just like him.

Foster is not OK.  Did you see him just touch-push tackle?  We are really hurting on D.

1. Overshown played well in the run game as far as I watched. Not so much in coverage.

2. Orlando is fast tracking himself out of a job.

3. Hand was criticized at the last two places he coached. Maybe there is some credence to that.

Just a thought, but with all the injuries in the secondary. Wouldn't you be best suited to critique the D to the personnel that you have available? So in this case more DL (preferably 4) and less DBs on the field.

Its the scheme...in certain situations the defense has to adjust and they dont..kansas rushed for 259yds the 3-4 man dline isnt working but thats what orlando is using 80% of the time!

Absolutely awful. Orlando is a joke   Worst past defense in the history of ever and we get zero pressure on the QB. We will never win with him as the DC

Hopefully a game like this wakes up the players and coaching staff to make some changes.

We have played seven games and these same issues have been there all year. I assume if it could all be fixed it would be by now or at least shown some improvement.
I don’t doubt things could. be fixed but I do doubt this staffs ability to fix them.
The blue print is out there... get to the edge and nobody engages for at least 10 yards.

If you’re a blue blood school, you ought to line up and whip your opponent with superior athletes.  Our defense is all about deception and fooling the QB.  It is tailor made for a mid-major that cant compete athlete for athlete.  Well, from my vantage point it looks like we end up fooling ourselves.  There is no reason, ever, for someone to be so wide open that the nearest defender isn’t in the TV screen... well, other than someone simply doesn’t know where to be.  Too much thinking required rather than 11 men flying to the ball.

Robinson came in mid-season and fixed the Manny Diaz mess by simplifying and telling our athletes to fly to the ball.  It took him 2 weeks!

One last thought and I’ll hang up and listen.... why are we trying to reinvent the wheel on defense?  I looked up at one point and saw 2 down linemen on the field.  What beats the spread is pressure on the QB.  Didn’t we learn this with the “unstoppable” run and shoot at Cougar High?  I don’t care how many DBs you can run out there you need a presence on the LOS.
