Terry Saban speaks: Nick Saban NOT going to Texas

I'm just tired of all the f'ing drama. If Saban is going to bring this much drama, pass on him and start looking to a much younger candidate that can manage the program far longer than Saban could.

F all the crap we have had to deal with. Deloss, Rowling, Hicks and the whole damned circus has screwed the program up massively. Maybe its time to let professionals handle the head coach issue and let the amateurs sit in the corner and just shut up.

The UT fanbase deserves better than what we have had to tolerate.

Hey Bag, what was the article all about with Terry and her making that quote? I am just curious as I believe what you McP and everyone else are saying. I for one really appreciate the insider info y'all provide, except that y'all have turned me into an addict.

I think the drama is just starting...gonna be a long ride.

Baghorn please share...Thanks
Pretty much what I said earlier on in this thread. The Saban's, who come from very much working class type backgrounds, care a lot about their financial situation...especially Terry...who carries a lot of weight in the Saban household. She's the business person in the family. I get it as does anyone who grew up with Depression era parents or grandparents. When you grow up that way you're never really comfortable with your financial situation. They lost a TON of money on bad deals the 'Bama boosters put them into (and some LSU folks as well). The total amount was approx. $30M. So, Nick Saban finds himself financially no better off, maybe even worse off, after the greatest 10 year run of his career. The reason he left Michigan State for LSU was because Michigan State waffled on paying him a bonus he felt he was due. The same scenario is essentially playing itself out at Alabama...where the 'Bama BMD's despite having 5 years to do so and 3 MNC's to incentivize them still haven't made Saban financially whole. On the other hand, we made up that $30M in one fell swoop before he was even the Texas coach...contingent on him becoming the Texas coach. That means a lot...a WHOLE LOT to a family like the Saban's. The fact Austin offers a better lifestyle for the whole family and Texas provides Nick even more resources to succeed with are simply icing on the cake in this deal.

Tell me how really feel. :o

why arent you putting everything you own on Saban becoming the next Head Coach? Seems to me that if you are so confident in the sources or whats being said then its a pretty safe bet to make. Again, im just taking what the insiders have said in regards to the whole Saban story. First, the AD hire was wrong. Second, the next prediction, when Mack retires, has yet to come to fruition. The meeting between Hicks/Wallace with Sexton was well known. It was reported by both camps at the time. Not just UT insiders.
You are totally wrong on the Hicks/Hall meeting. Inside Texas had that news months before the AP came out with that story, and were certainly the first to report on it among any insiders. They took HEAVY criticism for it too from even Orangebloods staff members who laughed at them, and other outlets too. 247 etc. They stuck to their guns and the sources they had on the story, and were proven totally right on it.

Mack is going to step down and wont be back next year. You will eventually get your proof on that, so lets wait on calling people wrong on it. Even this sites insiders are saying Mack is gone.

Thinking there is some truth and legitimacy to the Saban reporting is a bit different than calling it a lock. I havent. He could not come here when its said and done, and it wont mean the discussions behind the scenes werent legit or not serious. I think its a real possibility, but Im not going to bet my house on it

Im 31 and what does my job have to do with anything? If i was as confident as you are i would be placing a bet.
And if I were as confident as you that he isn't coming I'd be betting all I had. Seriously, do you know how goofy you look with this stuff?

I have no idea who is coming. I do know for a fact Saban has been talking with Texas through his agent. That from a friend inside our program. I don't care who believes it. I just don't get the ongoing refuting you are hell bent on.

Randolph, what crap have we had to deal with to this point? We don't even have a publicly open coaching vacancy....yet anyway. Saban is actually a man of more integrity than some realize. He is 100% committed to giving his all to Alabama to win the MNC this season. That's honorable of him. Never in the history of ever has any successful coach ever announced he's taking another job midway through a successful season....much less a season where his team has been ranked #1 wire to wire and is an odds on favorite to play in and win his 3rd consecutive MNC.

The program is on the verge of becoming the college version of the Dallas Cowboys - the AD isn't being allowed to do his job because big money guys with deep seated control issues demand to make decisions but won't accept accountability for seriously f'ed up mistakes. Their lack of self awareness leads to incredibly long periods with the program wandering through the wilderness and the program is painfully wrapped in endless drama.

We need a professional running the athletic program who can hire coaches and is willing to be held accountable for his decisions. Before we sign a contract with Steve Patterson, let's go find someone who matches that description.

that's hilarious. I know for a fact..from a friend.that says it all. There's not much money in placing a bet that he stays.and I'm pretty sure your friend is wrong. Actual news organizations would pick up the story if it were true. Sorry that evidence is required to get me to think Saban is 100%. There also wouldn't be conflicting reports as to who the next coach is.

Sorry but I never believed he was coming. Not wit the 100% stuff, none of it. Sorry but that's just how I've felt. The talk about it all being a smokescreen is just getting to be way too stupid. Again, I'm not trying to offend anyone and would be happy if I was wrong (but happier if we got Malzahn or even Briles)

Have any actual news organizations talked about the possibility of Saban coming to Texas?

Hey Turby, it's really all about deflecting any heat from Nick to help get him through the MNC game with minimal distraction.

Wait...you want to back out on Steve Patterson and go hire someone else? Wow. He's about to take over in a matter of days. I just dont see some crazy drama going on right now. Its message board fodder in reality, but on campus and in the offices of people who are making these decisions I dont think all hell is breaking lose.

Donors who give millions and millions to the program, Regent/BOR members, search committee members, university presidents, etc all being involved in the hiring of a head football coach I would imagine is pretty standard practice at the very top 5 jobs in college football. I dont think any of those AD's would have total authority to hire that position on their own. Its simply too big of a hire which has a massive direct impact on the school beyond just on the field at massive school that more than just the AD would be involved.

I think it's hard to imagine Saban is set on Austin next year while in the midst of another BCS title run. However, It isn't like what these guys have reported/leaked is complete garbage. People don't say things just to say them. For every person who speaks on the matter, they would have to be complete morons to make such things up with SUCH detail. Whether the detail in the rumors is a bit fabricated, well that's one thing but there has to be validity to some of this. Right now, it's interesting, because I honestly don't think it's worth hiring someone new no matter who it is just because we are tired of Mack. If it isn't going to be a proven winner. recruiter etc. then I'd rather wait it out. Painful as it is, it won't be resolved with someone like Mora Jr. etc. Saban rumors have too much grape-vine info with way too much detail to be something SO IMPOSSIBLE and unlikely. I don't have a problem with the updates and new developments...something is legit about all of this or else we wouldn't be talking about it. So, good job to those of you with your ears open.

Wow..I've never wanted the off-season to get here so bad. I am so ready to let the chips fall where they may.

For those that want to speculate on why Terry Saban would pick some unknown writer at the WSJ of all places someone on IT has mentioned this writer was a journalism major at Mich State when Saban was there. things that make you go hmm.. The article for the first time publicly admits some dissatisfaction with the Bama situation, and that she basically makes the business decisions. Im not a conspiracy theorist, but I think there was more motivations beyond affirming their love for Bama right now with this article. Interesting stuff
