There is only one bit of good news from the World Series. It is over and we can now concentrate on one of my favorite times, the off season. In it we need some help. On first look here are a few suggestions..

Pitching:

The Rangers, like every other team, needs pitching and in this case I break it down to two needs. Starting and relief pitching.

This team needs a number one guy. A guy who can shut down the other team on a consistent basis and that guy is not CJ Wilson. I really don't care who they have to trade or sign to get one, just go get him.

We have a closer even if he messed up game six of the World series. We need another mid reliever and a good left handed reliever.

Position Players:

First base is a glaring need. We have tried Justin Smolk, Chris Davis and Mitch Moreland, they all failed. I think a good target would be Prince Fielder, but we need a guy who can field and hit. Fielder is not much of a fielder but man he can hit.

Bench:

Still hard to believe the Rangers made it to game seven of the WS with the spare parts on the bench. They need some help here and there may not be a keep other than Craig Gentry on the team. That was the big advantage the Cardinals had this WS. In the National League, because of the pitcher hitting, you need a bench to pinch hit and do double switches.

There is much more but this is a good start..

Had the Rangers ponied up for Cliff Lee would this have been a different series? I think so. Our ace, CJ Wilson, was dinged early and often in his WS starts. I am so pissed I don't know what else to say. 2 straight years and they lose. A successful season only to be lost by the fact that they are known as the team that lost the world series 2 years straight.

I just don't think Lee is a number one. He is more of a number two. Getting a number one, a guy like CC Sabathia is going to be costly. I would shove everything I could to the Rays for James Shields. It may cost Holland and two or three of the top prospects in our farm system. What we get in return is a guy who can pitch with anyone.

I'm not a big rangers fan so I stayed away from the series talk so far. The key for them in the offseason is to just fill in the spots. Making to the big show two years in a row means they have what it takes. I feel like Fielder would be a good fit at first base. It's a position where you guys struggled to find a good fit all year. If they can fill in the gaps the Rangers will win a series, maybe not next year... but soon.

Winning is such a process of being in the right place at the right time..

Last season the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl, but they were fortunate to make the playoffs. Toward the end of the season the Eagles were down 21 points late in the fourth quarter against the NY Giants. The Giants had a melt down and lost the game. The first time and only time in the history of the Giants they had given up such a huge lead..If they win that game the Packers don't make the playoffs..

This season at the end of August the St Louis Cardinals were 10 1/2 games out of the wild card race. Atlanta had to totally fold for them to win.

Tom Landry used to say, "first you have to get in position." The Rangers have been in position but haven't closed the deal..Who knows when they get back? I am reminded of Dan Marino, as a rookie the Dolphins went to the Super Bowl. Dan played 23 years and never went back.

The Dan Marino analogy is hopefully not accurate! With Nolan in the Captain's Chair I think the Rangers are going to be competitive for many years to come. The psychological damage of losing in two straight world series is deadly. They need to spend a little cash and get some help on defense.

I meant the analogy to show when you get the opportunity you have to go for it..Washington didn't seem to sense the urgency..He just played the game as if it was another game..It is not..ask Dan..

I can't believe the Rangers squandered the opportunity to win a world series but I can tell you I am glad they did! It was priceless to see Pujols and LaRussa win it and bring another title to St. Louis. The Rangers choked and their manager should be fired for the poor moves in the last 2 games that cointributed to the loss. A huge blow the Rangers for the 2nd straight year. Ouch!

I take that back about LSU winning, I hope they lose by 50..hehe

At least the Rangers cannot be called cellar dwellars like my Astros. It might be light years before we see the playoffs.
