I understand the positives(good coach and great recruiter). I am worried about perception here. CS keeps harping on core values, all of us are ecstatic about the core values. We preach no cheating then hire someone caught cheating not that long ago. If all this was happening at ou or atm would our fan base be all over them, and making fun of the core values?

Coaches leave after NSD all the time.Maybe not a day or two after, but after none the less. Why such a big deal now ? When the NFL starts hiring and firing the domino affect happens and schools lose coaches to them and other schools affected by the NFL hirings. It is only news now because its tOSU, UF, and UT. Kids shouldn't base their decision on a coach. They should base it on scheme, and the University; and nothing else. They have to understand that 95% of coaches feel it is strictly business, and there is no true loyalty to a school for them. Now there are a few who are at their Alma mater and would love to stay there, but the rest are going jump ship when a better offer comes along, or the NFL comes calling (if they have aspirations of coaching on that level.
Anyone who trashes a coach for leaving when offered a better job or better situation for him or his family is the hipocrit ,because they would leave their job if a better situation presented itself to them.

Ya'll don't understand the University of Texas. We are a stuffy old school and a guy like Hurtt is going to meet resistance from the powers that be - no matter if Strong wants him or not.
I like the idea of Strong searching out Texas HS coaches to fill coaching positions. He automatically becomes a hero to the coaching ilk in Texas - and that's good for recruiting.

You know that a show cause is used to essentially suspend a coach from college coaching. Hurtt did exactly what the NCAA expected/wanted him to do, he left college coaching. His show cause runs until Oct 2015 - so he's 'still serving out his punishment' and will be until Oct.
Was he supposed to sit at home unemployed? Because I don't think many college programs were looking to hire a coach who couldn't recruit.
The argument that he didn't 'serve out' his punishment is bullshit. He's still serving it right now.

i dont see any conflict with core value when you look at the chronology. In fact it could fit right in. For all we know Charlie gave the man a shot and had him play straight on his watch. Looks like a great hire to me.

There’s a new AD in town. Would a stuffy old school have hired a black coach named Charlie Strong… over the objections of one booster that has donated more than $100M to UT?
"I think the whole thing is a bit sideways," McCombs said of the selection process during an interview with ESPN 1250 San Antonio. "I don't have any doubt that Charlie is a fine coach. I think he would make a great position coach, maybe a coordinator.
"But I don't believe [he belongs at] what should be one of the three most powerful university programs in the world right now at UT-Austin. I don't think it adds up."
I also like the idea of searching out HS coaches to fill positions… the recruiting benefit seems worthwhile.
But for DL… I’d be more inclined to look for a coach who's a great recruiter with high level D1, or Pro experience… or both. Just my $.02.

If you look back everyone got caught up (including administration)in the Shapiro lies, he had everyone fooled. It's not excuse but sometimes even the best of people can get caught up unexpectedly.

People keep talking about core values like they were engraved in stone and brought down from the mountain. I'm sure Strong believes in those core values, and I'm sure that they inform pretty much everything he does at UT. However, there's another core value that's important too. People should be forgiven for their sins and mistakes, and be allowed to move on. That especially applies to those who show contrition and don't continue to break the rules. I think that last statement fits Clint Hurtt's case. Yes, he messed up while employed with Miami, and yes, he's had to pay a steep price since then. All of that being said, Charlie Strong saw something in him while Strong was in Louisville. He hired Hurtt, and Hurtt did his job...and well. He also did it without a repeat of anything he did while at Miami. I said it in an earlier post...the statute of limitations should just about have run out on anything Hurtt did while at Miami, and he should get the same second chance any of us have wanted when we messed up. I certainly don't intend to stand in judgment of him...messed up too many times myself. My previous statement stands...I Strong wants Hurtt as his DL coach, he should get him. Trust me on this...Strong knows his butt is on the line too if Hurtt is hired. I doubt he'd hire him if he didn't trust him to walk the straight and narrow.

From what I heard… other than the 2 players that were indicted on sexual assault charges… Charlie did give the other players numerous chances before dismissing them.
Those that did change… and comply remained on the team.

I can agree with some parts of this, but the issue is that coaches' contracts are violated all of the time, but those same things that bind the student-athlete can't be violated. The NCAA transfer rules are a joke when the NCAA runs ads about student-athletes being students first. If a student wants to transfer elsewhere you certainly don't see them have to sit out a year on any other activities they may do while on campus. These coaches are supposed to be mentors to the kids,at least that is what the recruiting process says, but then they renege on that relationship by openly lying to them. These sweetheart deals where moves aren't made until NSD is over locks in kids that sign on NSD under the guise that their coach will still be there. Hopefully we will start to see some change on this subject and allow NLIs to be null if issues like this arise. I'm no legal expert, but does anybody know if coaches openly lying about their job circumstances could be considered fraud in relationship to the NLI?
On Hurtt, the guy was given a vote of confidence by Tom Jurich in Oct 2013 and maintained him as a coach when he would have struggled to get a job at any other college with the show-cause restrictions. Three months later, his loyalty was repaid by Hurtt leaving for a job where he wouldn't have to face any real punishment for his involvement in the Miami infractions. For all the people claiming he has changed, he misled the NCAA investigation in March 2013 by providing false info after being "squeaky clean" at Louisville since 2010. He may have been reformed at Louisville from a bagman standpoint, but the guy sure didn't mind lying about his past proceedings for self-preservation. At some point, you have to ask by Charlie Strong continues to associate with a coach like Hurtt when his baggage clearly defies his stated ethics and he has shown little in the way of remorse by his actions.

I wish the Hornsports administrators who are aware of rumors or possible interviews, would share such. Mark the info. as "rumor only", but waiting until it's a done deal offers little value to us. If we have to wait for official word- that info. is available anywhere. Just share what info. you are hearing and are able to. Would be greatly appreciated.

Could not agree more. Like someone posted earlier, we are only hearing about these because it is UCLA, OSU, & UT. If a coach from Western Kentucky did this it wouldn't even be a headline.
