QB battle

I'm not one of the people who think a freshman cannnot manage it. Most can't, but the truly special ones can, and he has had a Spring with at least second team snaps, unlike most Freshmen. I'm excited about his skill. If the coaches are concerned about the center situation, I can certainly understand that.

Hook 'em!

I can't remember how many times a frosh that didn't have game experience came off the other teams bench and looked like superman, but it has been far too many.

Josh Rosen went 8-5 last year for UCLA....Their roster is not as talented across the board as UT is.
Hope is ALIVE

Look at the points they put up.... Our Defense will be much much better than their's

The Kid threw for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in their loss to Nebraska

Texas HS QBs are coming to college better prepared and in Buechele's case he already knows the offense. Factor in that the Baylor offense is easy to learn since their is no playbook and a true freshman QB has a better chance these days.

Buchele can struggle in his first possession. What if Buchele throws a Pick 6 in his first series?

It's one game that is 95% likely going to be a loss. Both will play but Swoopes will start. Why destroy the true freshman's confidence on the first series? Buchele will be in by the 2nd quarter and if he does well enough but they still are losing, they will keep him in. If not, move back to Swoopes.

It's one game, if the "big cigars" get so worked up over 1 game, they need more patience IYAM.
The Big Cigarillos need to dip their stogies in a Lewinsky and STFU.

Josh Rosen is more talented than any QB on the Texas roster though.
At this point in time, this remains true. I like our boy Buechele but Rosen can't exactly be used as an example. He was considered a sure-fire NFL bound prospect before he ever put on a Bruin jersey.

The Brianiacs posted a story today that I shook my head over. They were talking about Gilbert working with Swoopes to get him to quicken his release. I thought the great positive for Shawn Watson was that he was a great developer of QBs. Was Watson really so bad of a QB coach that Gilbert is coaching Swoopes up in just 6 months past where Watson had him after two full seasons?

– Team Note | Tyrone Swoopes: Back on August 20th in a Saturday Open Post we noted that coach Strong had made a decision about a starter and it was looking more and more like Swoopes would be the guy.

I spoke with a few people this week and this is what I’ve been told.

Texas is splitting their team period into “halves†and in the “first half†Swoopes is with the first team and in the “second half†Buechele is with the first team.

Also a source noted that when they install a new plan, Swoopes gets the majority of those reps.

I asked how Swoopes looks this week and was told he looks “aggressiveâ€.

Was also told that Sterlin Gilbert has been really working to get Swoopes to play “backyard footballâ€, to trust himself and just make the throw. One source said, “he’s telling Tyrone to throw the ball out there and trust the receivers to go up and get itâ€. Swoopes has notoriously struggled with hesitancy in pulling the trigger…patting the ball and not throwing guys open. They continue to push him to “just throw itâ€. And at least based on what we are hearing from practice this week, he’s doing that more and more.

Related to the note above, they are also impressing on him the need to trust himself. Source said, “they’re telling him if he’s unsure of something then just hand it off or tuck it and runâ€. Again, trying to take the “thinking†out of it and push Tyrone to believe in his abilities and play on instinct.

My personal feeling is this is exactly the kind of message Swoopes needs to hear. And hearing that he is playing “aggressive†in practice is a positive sign. Whether that aggression shows up on Sunday remains to be seen. But I will say that even for those who believe Swoopes was always a good practice player (an assertion I personally disagree with having seen him with my own eyes in practice multiple times in the past) few would argue that he was ever “aggressive†with his passing attack in practice. – (Super K) http://texas.thefootballbrainiacs.com/2016/08/open-post-wednesday-august-31st/

i have some experience dealing with the development of youngsters, and my strong impression is that, if ty does well this season and beyond, it will have been the culmination of experience from everyone who has ever worked with him.  including some who weren't teaching him football.

I will be shocked if Tyrone Swoopes is NOT a better QB under Gilbert than he was under Watson.

I'm even more confused as to exactly why Shawn Watson was Charlie's choice for coordinator. And the whole clusterf##k that was the offense for ND game last year is even more mysterious.

I don't get the players not being happy part, but Chip likes to add drama.  If players aren't happy about it, we still have a problem with kids not falling in line.........................................

Chip was kinda confused as well. He explained that apparently, some players thought Swoopes outperformed Beuchelle... but as Charlie says, "The Tie goes to the younger player"
