SignUp Now!I'm probably in the minority here, but....While I think Swoopes will win the start Shane will get the majority of the snaps. And once he takes over, the offense will open up more as he'll have more at his disposal (18 wheeler on 3rd down, Heard on direct snaps, etc.)
Idk...Shane hadn't even PROVEN that he can be a successful college qb as he hasn't taken one game snap. We're basing everything know about him off one half of a spring game...not saying that he wouldn't excel, he has the talent from what we've seen. But we also saw Heard set a single game total offense record and he's now catching passes...I'm probably in the minority here, but....
Until Shane proves he can't move the chains on 3rd down or score in the red zone, let him continue to roll with the rock. There's a definite rhythm QBs want and need to be successful, especially super-competitive ones like Boo.
Under Watson's "system" Swoopes was ineffective. I trust Gilbert to run plays that fit Swoopes skill set when he's in there and plays that fit Buechele when he's in there. Swoopes may fail again but I'm not the one with him every day, so I will defer to Gilbert. I do have faith that he will right the ship eventually.Swoopes Has Proven he can not move the chains on 3rd down or score in red zone !
Swoopes has not proven what he can or can't do in Gilbert's system.Swoopes Has Proven he can not move the chains on 3rd down or score in red zone !
Most fans, pay sites, and news outlets rated his performance in the spring game as "Meh..." at BEST. Look again at the stats from the Longhorns' own site:Swoopes has not proven what he can or can't do in Gilbert's system.
One half of a spring game is just a small glimpse and didn't prove anything for either player. Most fans, pay sites, and news outlets rated his performance in the spring game as "Meh..." at BEST. Look again at the stats from the Longhorns' own site:
4 / 16 / 1 INT / 71 yards / 0 TDs
As opposed to Boo:
22 / 41 / 0 INT / 299 yards / 2 TDs
Sure, he's since gone through 7on7's and summer camp and possibly improved – once again – during practice (although most reports were that he was still indecisive, holding the ball too long, erratic, etc.). But, he had a chance to shine against a freshman who had only been on campus 3½ months.
The spring game is the closest the team comes to a real game for 9 months - the stands, the fans, the refs, and preparation for 60 minutes of football. Sure, they ended up playing for 30, but no one knew that until late in the 2nd quarter. One half of a spring game is just a small glimpse and didn't prove anything for either player.
We will not truly know how either one will play until we see them against real, live opponents who are trying to knock their heads off.
wait until they GET football. That's when the good stuff starts flowing.People say the darndest things when they don't have football.
I think Charlie could do better, but yeah, he'd be great at Angelo St.Look only time will tell. My butt will be in the stands supporting our team --- you can make all the excuses you want -- new OC --- poor OL -- but the bottom line is You either have it or you don't --- In my opiinion he should have gone to Angelo State and done well .
