PD - I clicked your link. Did you even read it?

The first link you posted – the first instance they attempted to cite – THEY DIDN'T EVEN LIST ANYTHING TRUMP SAID.

They only talked about a muslim father who was offended by something. We can't be sure why because YOUR LINK DIDN'T BOTHER TO SAY.

I asked for one instance.

How about you either just post your grievance yourself, in your own words, or provide a link to a site that isn't a liberal trash bin?

FYI, religion is not a race. And it's not bigoted to note how a religion forces its members to behave.

This is why Huff Post isn't news. When you make this astounding claim, then in your very first case presentation of the story you totally whiff? lol Your best always comes first. And that was nothing less than just funny.

Here's another article.

https://jimnicar.com/ut-traditions/the-eyes-of-texas/

For those that read the history lesson referenced above, it's readily apparent that the song was intended as a satire of the UT President and his repeated use of the phrase "The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You". There is zero evidence that the song was ever intended or used as a form of racism.
I'll ask this: is it possible that while it's intent was satire that the song could also be racist?  I mean the fact that it was 1st performs at a minstrel show with white students in blackface and sang to the tune of "railroad" pretty much sums that up, NTG...

Afew quotes from the same article you posted:

Set to the tune “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad,” Johnson and Sinclair prepared the song so it could be performed by the Varsity Quartet at its next show in May.

A Varsity minstrel show was scheduled for Wednesday evening, May 12, 1903, in the Hancock Opera House on West Sixth Street, and was packed with music, dances, skits, and even a tumbling act.

People do absolutely have that right. But when you draw a line over someone's private political views, you deserve to the laughed at.

Hornsup, I know you will decline my request here because I truly feel that you will fail – but Can You Provide One Instance Where Trump Has Been Anti-Semitic? Or racist, for that matter.

Just one?

I mean if Jewish groups think what he said was anti-Semantic, who am I to disagree.

As far as racism... shit hole countries, SOBs, my  African American, his handling of the Central Park Five, he & his father’s housing discrimination that they were sued and lost over, his birther years, etc. These are all things African Americans have said were racist, offensive to them, and bigoted. And that’s not all of it. But I’m sure you will say none of that was racist. That black people, I guess we don’t decide what we feel is racist. You and Trump and other white people, I guess you all pick where deemed racist. I mean if that’s not the case and A LOT of people have said these things were racist... I guess you have to accept that these were racist. Oh and good day sir.

Well since we're going back in history, my people (Native Americans) would appreciate yall getting off our land. Thank you.

To lighten things up a bit, here's what I suggest to replace "The Eyes". As an ex-drummer, I'd love to hear the drum section during the solo.  ?

So, for 100's of years, countless people have sang The Eyes of Texas countless times without an ounce of malice, hate, or racism in mind and now it's racist?

Just because of where and who first performed it and the tune it was written to? I just think that's a huge, huge stretch.

My view is similar to that of Jim Crow laws.  Regardless of when and how the song was created, it has now become apparent that it is in fact racist it's meaning and intent.  And as such it should be removed.  I mean, if we're really concerned about eradicating racism from our society.  Any wrongs that we as humans become aware of we should do our best to put an end to it.  Regardless of how sentimental it may be...

We can't necessarily get off your land but you should be adequately compensated for it ?

Thats not anti-semitic. Again, do you liberals ever read what you link?

I read the story TWICE and could not find a single thing Trump said that was anti-Semitic.

In his words, Trump did not specify that they were Jewish. Instead, he addressed them as real estate professionals. And in that perspective, he was totally correct with what he said. You would have to take it out of context for it to not make sense anymore and come to the conclusion it was anti-semtic.

If anything, the idea that spawned the story was itself anti-semitic. They literally took words he addressed to real estate folks and applied them to their race instead.

Who's the racist now?

CNN. Whenever you libs get tired of being burned because you based your whole argument on what CNN is willing to put into print, maybe you'll look somewhere else. To your credit, at least you didn't march out "The Atlantic" (lol) and Huffington, nothing more than cheerleading sites.

And yes, I would know a little about the media, having spent two decades as a part of it.

Are you saying that it's meaning and intent are racist?
Absolutely!  It's history tell us as much.  That's not to say that you personally sang the song with racist intent.  But the song itself was created and originally sang with racist intent.  The articles we both posted says as much imo

I think the singing of "The Eyes of Texas" has done more to bring people of all races together than it has ever done to divide.  People of all religions, creeds, colors, and nationalities have proudly sang the song at the top of their lungs after victories and even after defeat.  It's a song that regardless of the outcome, we are still together.

From the top of my head here are some things Trump did before and while POTUS:

1) upgraded MLK's birthplace to a national historical park.
2) posthumously pardoned Jack Johnson
3) established an Opportunity and Revitalization Council to restore insalubrious black neighborhoods
4) signed a major crime reform bill applauded by black community
5) granted Alice Johnson clemency
6) loaned his personal jet to Nelson Mandela
7) overseen the lowest black unemployment in history
8 denounce David Duke over 20 years ago
9) deported ex-Nazi
10) been given a lifetime achievement award for paving way for blacks into corporate America

I will let you judge for yourself if those actions are of a racist. I say this as not on defense of Trump but to point out the difference between an argument and a debate. An argument is who is right and who is wrong; whereas, a debate is WHAT is right and wrong.

If there is going to be an open dialogue about race relations, then perhaps there should be an agreed upon definition of racism. Apparently the definition of racism is changing from a set definition to an evolving interpretation of "I know it when I see it."

Can you explain the racist intent? I mean, I read the words and can't for the life of me find racism.

The song was created to be a school song, simply stolen to some extent from a guy who led Confederate forces and taught a class. The term "the eyes of the South are upon you" in itself is not racist. The simple reference to the South is not racist.

I did read a story about this and again, came out scratching my head. If we're going to ban every song ever sung by a bad guy, get ready to say good bye to music in general.

But I'm willing to listen and learn if you've got a good explanation.

Haha ok, so Jewish groups calling his words anti-Sematic, they don’t know what they are talking about. Trump saying you won’t support me because I don’t need your money.. not anti-Semantic. But Rep. Omar saying it’s all about the benjamins.. that is anti-Sematic. Gotcha.

But at least you didn’t respond about all racist things he has done.

Affirmative. If some Jews thought it was anti-semitic, then their brains failed them. And it is noticeable that you're not trying to explain how it was anti-semitic.

Trump said "I don't need your money" to dozens of groups who weren't Jewish. The truth is – He does not need their money. What a concept! lol

I don't know what Omar said and didn't make the argument you just invented and defeated in one fatal swoop. lol Do you feel better now? lol

I did respond. Trotting out liberal rah rah crap isn't proving anything. Why can't you just put a sentence together that supports your point. Name the time, the speech, I'll do the leg work for you.

Can you do that much?

I’m sorry but none of that means anything. He is a racist. It’s not a “I know it when I see it.” It’s the fact that a vast amount of African Americans have said these things are racist. You can’t tell us no that’s not racist. You don’t get that right. I’m not gonna tell a woman what’s she feels in inappropriate behavior. I’m not gonna tell someone in the LBGTQ community what’s homophobic and not. You’re not gonna tell us what’s ok for us to deem racist. As recent as January of this year, 83% of African Americans said his was a racist. That’s like 30-40 points higher than his approval rating lol. But yeah all of those political stunts you listed.. somehow we don’t believe him. Somehow we can see through the BS.

Hornsup, this is becoming boring. You're refusing to face facts and reject common sense. Nothing I say is going to turn you to something other than CNN-fed nonsense.

Not all Jews are conservative. Not all Jews are liberal. They do not think alike as you apparently expect them to. That in itself is racist (stereotyping). So when you run out here screaming that a Jewish group is upset with Trump, well. . . it's the same group that was upset when he got elected. Nothing new here under the sun. It's neither novel nor unique.

But you expected that to mean something.

Here's a link to an unbiased source – The Times of Israel. Read it and learn something about the subject.
