Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Damn, was holding out a little hope. Losing all 4 of the main pass catching targets is going to be a tough fill. I like the young talent, but that is exactly what it is, young and inexperienced. Helm is serviceable, but not the same class as Sanders.

We don’t need to replace Sanders with a TE we will replace him with another receiving threat. We have horses waiting their time and that time is now. Worthy was the main passing focus for three straight years I believe that if Cook or Wingo gets that same focus they will be more productive. Moore, Niblet, Butler, Golden, Dubose, Livingstone are more than capable of replacing what we are losing. I honestly believe we will be better next year. I love JWhitt and AD but they are not irreplaceable. We have been loading up with playmakers and now they get their chance.

Helm will be on the field.

I have been expecting JT to be that match up nightmare I had been reading about...and it never came to be....I do not know if I will be able to tell if he is here or not
There was a lot going on this season and some of it is Sarks offense.

JT was hurt a lot. It doesn’t help. For a few games he was just a decoy.

QE3 was hurt a few games. QE is getting better but he still struggles going through progressions.

Sarks offense - his offense is focused on balance and setting up explosive plays and doesn’t seem to try to exploit individual matchups over and over. It’s a bit stubborn philosophy to me but works in most cases. None of our offensive players exceeded my expectations except for J Brooks and J Blue. We had stars all over the field who would’ve put up bigger numbers in other offenses. Also QE3 is good but not great (hopefully will be great next year). I sure felt like our offense should’ve been unstoppable with the talent on the field at almost every position but self inflicted wounds, bad blocking, bad plays and stubbornness limited it. We still were quite good.

JT met my expectations but sure did leave some on the table.

As of right now I'm tracking 28 total departures from the 2023 Roster. Admittedly, I don't / didn't know how many scholarships they had that weren't filled, but if you do a 1 for 1 swap of outgoing for incoming then Texas has 1 roster spot available. I'm assuming they were slightly under the 85 total during the year. Why else would they bring in 2 guys this weekend. Gotta believe at least 1 or 2 more will enter the portal, if not now then in April.

Sark pretty much knew all four would go

this may be Sark's way of telling PK he is not pleased with the defensive scheme currently being used

This is Sark simply improving the team. If he has anything to say to PK, he would just say it. The same thing was said when GP was here. No need for hidden messages.

Great hire. Will help strengthen California recruiting and also help bring in those Polynesian kids.

Page 34. JT at the top of all of Texas TE records. In 3 years he is right with or has passed David Thomas. If JT returns, he will own all the records (except TDs) by a long shot.

He has 3 of the 9 100 yard receiving games by a TE in Texas History - all came this past season.
I was looking for that and that is when I came across the 20+ stat

so will Kelvin Banks but the opponent won’t be worried about him catching a bunch of passes or scoring
I'd certainly be worried about Sark's starting TE catching passes and scoring.

He and Sanders both had 2 TDs this year.

Texas will be short this year, but think about it, Texas just lost one of their best TE's in history. We would bemoaning this regardless of who we had waiting in the wings.
My response to the original post was an attempt at pointing out that I don't believe Sark is going to take a TE off the field because Sanders declared.

Helm is obviously not Sanders, but I think he'll be used regularly and do well.

What's funny is I haven't seen anything lately on Barron's plans, and he helped recruit Mukuba to Texas since they're old friends.
IT wrote this morning that there are rumors floating around that Barron is close to returning for another year, however they can't confirm anything other than he's talking things over with those close to him to make the best decision possible.

They believe it's better to assume he's gone, but this could boil down to what kind of draft feedback he's receiving and he has until January 15th to declare.

It was also mentioned Sark does an excellent job of pitching potential draftees who should probably come back to the team.

The recent addition of Mukuba could also help here.
