As long we're on the subject, my Dad played for the Nocona Indians and was the 2nd string RB for one year behind Jack Crain who later played for the University of Texas. Crain was the SWC player of the Year and made some All-Americans team as well in both 1939 and 1940.

My memory is not quite like it was back then, but I do remember that the game actually resembled soccer more than football because you weren't allowed to carry or throw the ball which was actually a soccer ball. Rutgers won the game 6-4.

The first game in United States in which the ball was picked up and carried and players were tackled did not come for another six years. That game was played on June 4, 1875 between Tufts University and Harvard.

haha and it was a rough game. there were a lot of injuries and deaths which led to the formation of the ncaa a few years after the turn of the century.

yeah, in the late 1800s there developed two different unofficial set of rules: one was more like soccer and the other was more like rugby. IIRC, field goals were 5 points and touchdowns were 2 points or something like that. The emphasis was on running and kicking the ball. The names for the positions go back to that time but they dont have the same meaning today. The back that was furthest back from the center was the full back (essentially the wildcat back of today). the depth of play half way from the center to the fullback were the half backs. the area of play halfway from the LOS to the halfbacks were the quarter backs.

The function of the positions changed with the advent of the under-center snap (around 1930). Offensive innovators wanted a way to get the running back to the called gap/hole as soon as possible instead of waiting for the ball to be pitched from center. The innovation was a back would go under center, at the snap the running back could run to the hole without waiting for the ball, and back that took the snap could hold the ball out as the running back took it at the designated hole with a lot of momentum. the logical back to go under center was the back closest to the center already, the quarterback, who was mostly a blocking back or a quick snap/pitch before then; ie QB sneak.

I hadn't seen anyone post about it, but there is a daily show on YouTube that features a bunch of guys that were radio hosts at The Horn before they unceremoniously canned them. Bucky, BK, Trey, Harge, Zay, Jeff Howe, Wags. It starts a live stream at 8 AM and continues til 5 PM.
They are worth a listen. The channel is Texas Sports Unfiltered. A word of caution, if offensive language bothers you or you have young ones listening you may want to forego this channel.

I cant (my vehicles are too old) but some people are able to plug their phone into the radio and listen to an internet link (podcasts, youtube, ect).
I record shows to digital and put them on SD cards or thumb drives and listen to them the next day on a hand held radio.

The Horn lost Texas broadcast rights to iHeart. Not surprising since their over-the-air coverage sucked. I think they expected more people to start using the app instead of a radio, but it wasn't enough. What that means is that advertising revenue dropped dramatically so they had to cut costs. In their business, that means people. As much as I hated to see that happen, it's not all bad. As much as I enjoyed hearing Bucky in the morning, Rod Babers is even better.
