Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Agree with all who replied. Just pointing out SECis not so strong over all.

Give Tom back and I will take Texas over top two of SEC.
I believe many would agree that top to bottom the SEC is not as dominate as the media portrays. Some of their second level teams are clearly below average. The issue is that the perception of their strength as a conference has become the reality for big time recruits.

I miss the days of bowl game relevance and excitement. Sadly, many factors have substantially dwindled their appeal.

Doubt if Big 12 fans at schools that beat SEC schools would agree with you on thier games were meanless.

Betyou would have been happyif Horns had played in a bowl game.

Football is is worty watching even at Jr. Hi. level.
I would have been happy if Texas played in a bowl game.  But if you're not in the playoff, you're playing for 5th place at best.  That is if you're playing in a New Year's Six bowl.   If not, you're playing for 13th place.  That to me sounds like the definition of meaningless.  Doesn't mean I wouldn't watch Texas play and if we beat Georgia in a meaningless beauty contest bowl say that we were better than them that day.  We were better but we finished in 10th or 11th place that year.

Who won the Texas Bowl last?  I don't because Texas didn't play in it and I don't care.  But I can tell you the 4 teams that played in the playoffs.

Not totally accurate. All the $ec schools were favored over the Big XII schools. Tech killed The Pirate/Miss St 34-7, #7 Baylor beat #8 Ol Miss 21-7 (yes, I know Baylor was the Big XII Champ and ranked 1 spot higher but still the underdog in this game) and Kansas St killed LSU to complete the trifecta.

Bama and Georgia were in a class of their own however even so Bama lost to aggy in collieville.

Iowa St lost to Clemson so the Big XII had at least 2 loses.
If the two teams that were in the playoffs (Georgia and Alabama) were playing in the bowls instead of the playoffs, Tech would have been playing a team taht was two places better than the Pirates of Miss St. Baylor would have played Georgia or Alabama, LSU was playing with 38 players because 47 were out with COVID or opted out.  LSU still played unlike aggy.

But I can tell you the 4 teams that played in the playoffs.
Lets be honest now. You can only do that because 2 of the 4 are always there . . . easy peasy. So all you have to do is remember the other two. And at the moment, I can't.

Cincinnati and Michigan.  I'll admit those two aren't always there.  But both those teams had a chance to win a National Championship.  The rest of the teams in the bowl games didn't have a chance and the players and coaches of those teams know it and show up or move on as they wish.

You are right.  Everybody only remembers one game and the winner.  In a couple of years we might not remember who lost the championship game.

Maybe or maybe not, who knows? I do know that the $ec picks where they want their members to play and I also know that all the $ec teams were favored over the Big XII teams with the possible exception of K St/LSU. Kudos to LSU for playing the game anyway.

I think I am right in saying that Tito's can't cut NIL deals because it is alcohol related. This is a good way to get that money invested in the student athletes .
