I noticed his introduction in the Who Are You? thread and thought it deserved recognition on it's own. Y'all welcome a former player. Here is what he wrote.
Born and raised in Austin, saw my first Longhorn game at 5 days old on the way home from being born at the old St. David's Hospital (hadn't even been home yet and got to see us destroy the Piggies, 44-7). Fulfilled my childhood dream of playing football and lettering under Coach Royal in the early '70s after spending many of my formative years as a ballboy (and batboy for baseball) and helping in the equipment room. Earning a scholarship to go to school and play football for Texas was an unbelievable honor and a period of my life I'll always cherish.
Over the 40 years since those treasured times wearing the Longhorn uniform, I made a few attempts at the NFL (I was in more training camps than Gatorade) and played a little minor-league ball. Enjoyed many years as a high school and college football official and spent several years as a coach at the junior high and high school levels, college, and a couple of professional leagues.
Many of the screen names I'm seeing here are very familiar from my days on other sites under a different name. Since my wife and I try to spend as much time as possible in Key West, I decided to change my on-screen handle to something that reflected my desire to eventually become a full time denizen of "The Conch Republic". During our visits there, we've encountered Coach Leach on many occasions and had some great discussions regarding just about everything...except football !
Looking forward to becoming a part of this board; Hook 'Em!
