Just some thoughts...

Briles sounds great to me.
Harbaugh as I have outlined.... Hasn't coached in college in a long time, hasn't recruited in a long time, and hasn't had to defend offenses he will see in the Big 12. Its like comparing apples to oranges. People are enamored by the Super Ring but that doesn't mean he is a fit at this time.
No, he has been too busy winning a championship at the highest level last year. Do you really imagine that a guy who has a great football and personal reputation and won a super bowl last year cannot assemble a top coaching staff that can help him recruit with the UT profile and create a defense that can handle Big 12 offenses? Mack Brown had exactly zero championship wins, much less a recent super bowl win or any experience recruiting Texas when he got to UT. He was also a complete incompetent as a football coach and yet he managed to recruit well enough to win a MNC in spite of his deficiencies.

And you really believe that John Harbaugh is not a high success potential candidate??? Got it.

You all realize that the same things were true about Pete Carroll when he arrived at USC and he created a dynasty. He was a big unknown, sometimes you just have to trust a little. If Saban doesnt come give me Harbaugh!

Not a lock, not knocking your guy, but we do not his answer at all. This comes from someone who has talked to him.
Would he really tell anyone even some family what hes going to do? Outside of wife and agent he's not going to say a thing to anyone just my opinion.

You could also have said all of these things about Jim Harbaugh. He had no experience recruiting or even coaching. Some guys just get it. Both Harbaughs are in that group.

This x 1,000,000!

If he decided to say no I would think he would have let us know by now. No reason not to.
^^^This^^^ is what I'm wondering too. Not to mention that for whatever reason he chose not to participate in a recent press conference. That may be nothing, but then again, with everything else going on he may be trying to avoid those questions like the plague. Why avoid anything if you've got nothing to hide.

I agree with MBHORN. if he was not interested then just get on with it. Why would he not tell Patterson so we could move on. Maybe that is why Patterson is working the phone and interview lines. Maybe Saban told him "no" but noone else and thus we have moved on. I just cannot believe that if he were not in play that he would have not said anything. I have never been hired for 8 million but if I was comfortable in my job and I didnt want this job, I would have said no a long time ago and moved on. Wierd stuff to say the least. MAybe Chip and OB's are on to something and he is truly not in play. WHo knows?

Jesus just updated on IT and says Saban should decide soon, not before Friday. Suggested order is Saban's to turn down, then Fisher, then Harbaugh/Briles. Seems to feel good about Saban.

Maybe Saban has told us NO and that is why you have started to hear every other name out there. If it is NO, he doesn't need to make another statement. He can just stand on what he said when he signed the extension. We are way over-thinking everything. I am just excited to have a NEW coach. I trust Patterson will make a GREAT hire!

I think he likes Alabama and its comfortable but IMO his wife must hate it and she wants out (wouldn't you?) Austin offers them a life not just a celebrity existence. I believe that's why he hasnt said no. This is my opinion so dont start quoting sources :-)

I want Harbaugh, Saban, Fisher or Gruden in that order. They represent proven coaches that have made it to the big stage. They can coach, have excellent work ethics, provide instant name recognition and would likely hire top level assistants.

Briles and Strong are good coaches, but neither had won big. Each excels on one side of the ball yet has not proven to be talented at the other. Briles has Texas connections while Strong is a bit more proven. Both could exceed but not given commodities. I actually think Mora is a better hire if we can't get one of the big guys.

Serious question for the Briles Fan Club. What is his biggest win? This season, though successful, lacked any big wins.

Interesting

Yes very interesting! And jives with what we are hearing on here as we'll.

If it was no, we would already know.
Not necessarily, there could be external factors. Maybe the Mack lawsuit is being resolved over the weekend or something. There's just too many variables to know.

Seems like Friday would be a busy day, getting home from Sugar Bowl, then come to Austin....Saturday might be easier

I'm pretty sure if the unnamed coaches answer was no we would have heard it by now. I'm thinking he's either strongly considering it or made up his mind and is waiting. If not, Harbaugh all the way. I'm so-so on Briles.

Seems Jesus and I are hearing similar things. Let me restate what i mean. We have a Friday night deadline for him. Not that it will get announced Friday but that we need a answer by then

Well hell I hope if he gives Patterson an answer Friday that it leaks down to us!

Do you think the outcome of the OU game will have any affect on his decision? I'm not sure OU has a prayer in the game, but stranger things have happened.
