Shaun what does your gut tell you on Saban? I kinda feel it has faded a lot of late or all the smokecreens are working to make us feel that way.

Mike I don't know man. I just let y'all know what I hear from a guy that is dealing with all this. I have never been 100 percent on Saban always 50/50. My gut tells me it will be Briles or Fisher.

The tell - tell sign will be listening to Saban PC after the sugar bowl tomorrow night. If he seems a little unusual or unlike himself I would think that's a big sign

John Harbaugh does not have the recruiting connections that Saban , Fisher, or Briles have.

Offer them in this order and we will be in great shape.

Know a ton of HS football coaches. Briles is respected but they don't kiss his ring like some people portray. He's well thought of but so is every coach in the area (Sumlin, Mack, Gundy, Miles, etc). I think that angle is overcooked. Hope your BMD buddy isn't blinded by this.

Briles sounds great to me.

Harbaugh as I have outlined.... Hasn't coached in college in a long time, hasn't recruited in a long time, and hasn't had to defend offenses he will see in the Big 12. Its like comparing apples to oranges. People are enamored by the Super Ring but that doesn't mean he is a fit at this time.

2 days have gone by and there has been complete silence from one branch of BMD and the coach who should not be named. The deadline like I told y'all last weekend was set to be Friday. That has not changed. We want a answer Friday. From a guy that would know, There has been no answer given to us definite. They were confident last weekend that It was 50-50 or better for us. now who knows.
There has been communication up until Sunday night. Now it's the waiting game. My guy is starting to turn into a Briles guy. He does NOT want strong at all. Not what we need coaching wise. They want a guy with Texas HS connections. If it were to be strong that's a Patterson hire with not much support.

Sometimes it is important to get your thoughts out on paper..

Not a lock, not knocking your guy, but we do not his answer at all. This comes from someone who has talked to him.

Given the leaks about Saban coming to Texas the first time around, I doubt Saban would risk accepting the offer before the conclusion of their bowl game Thursday night. However, if he has decided to stay at Alabama and not accept our offer, I would think this is info he would want leaked and thus would have communicated this to us already. If we don't have confirmation by noon on Friday I'm guessing we move on to 1b...probably one of these: Fisher, Harbaugh, Briles.

I can see we may miss on Saban, but why would we miss on Fisher?? Seems to be a clear number two, unless you also are hearing the John Harbaugh intel...?.

Thanks Shaunsters. My issues with Briles come from a close friend who is BU alum and played for BU. he has a son who was recruited by many, including Briles. My friend who wanted his son to go to BU, wouldn't let him go because he thought Briles was a very disingenuous guy. I trust my friend. He did not want his son playing for the guy.

Well Shaunsters, you have been vey consistent and we appreciate it. I hope your guy gets his and almost everyone else's first choice.

Because his second choice is not going to make many people happy, nor is it a proven winner on the big stage. And we don't "have to get over" anything really. We can hate the choice if we want. It will just insure almost zero patience with any poor performance with Briles from the greater fanbase and indirectly to Patterson and those who went that direction. A Briles hire will not unite the fanbase. Yes, he is better than Mack, we think... Whoever comes will have to win, and win quickly. I can see Briles being the second coming of Mackovic with the fans though. All O, No D and a shitty attitude like he didn't want to be here in the first place. That won't play well.

For me if it's not Saban or Fisher I would want Briles over any of the other second tier candidates due to his ties to Texas. Everyone needs to just get over all the negative stuff with him. Bottom line he can coach offense and recruit. Give him a good defensive staff and he would kill at Texas.

That said I hope it's Saban or Fisher.

I don't like Harbaugh due to his time away from the college game and lack of immediate ties to Texas high schools.
