Ants in drag. Why do women wear little black dresses?

Tradition, why do the kids want to throw it out? Why do the 20 something's and 30 something's not appreciate it? It's probably because they didn't live through it. I did, and it was wonderful. Yes, I'm older than some and younger than some, and I freely admit it, but I have earned the right to voice my opinion--through blood, sweat, tears, and money. I've earned the right to voice it and paid more than some and less than others, but voice it I shall. Calling me an 'old' for voicing it won't change that, it simply demonstrates a lack of respect and appreciation for those who came before.

Yes, Paul, some of us have already been there, experienced the National Championships, the pinnacle that you want to achieve. Until you win one, you should show some respect for those that built that house.

Hook 'em!

Java I think your looking at this all wrong. Kids don't want to throw out traditions, they want to build new ones. And since there are people from the ages of 20-100 that object to any changes to the uniform, I think the "olds" Paul is refering to has more to do with traditionalist than an actual age.

You are right about one thing though, you have the right to voice your opinion as loudly as you see fit.

Change happens to all people and things no matter how much we hate it or fight against it, If we are going to test the waters with an alternate uniform, I would much rather it be something crisp and simple like this that gets all the 16-21 year olds excited than go the maryland route and have people wondering if the jerseys are meant to be some kind of abstract art.

If you need a gimmick you do not have much of a history. Or you do not appreciate it.

How many of you are Yankees fans? I'm not but I would hate it if they did away with their pinstripes.

you hit the nail right on the head diesel

Ok, all alternative uniform proponents:

Question 1. When do you wear them? Insignificant games or big games?

Question 2. Why do you drastically change uniforms (the blacks, which have nothing to do with UT) when you have one of the Top 5 brands in CFB? I am asking for a logical argument here, one that winning doesn't cure.

Sorry folks, I hate the oil can helmets, literally hate them. Use them for practice or something.

i think more importantly, what is the sentiment of the recruits, players and coaches.

I consider white, black, and gray neutral colors.  A combination of school colors and neutral colors fine.

For example: All away jerseys are white right? Why can't black or gray be in the same category?

USC Trojans colors: Cardinal and gold, yet they wear white away jerseys and gold pants.

Why can't black or gray become the new neutral?

Texas baseball wears gray baseball caps sometimes.

btw, I'm not against productive change, in fact, at work, I propose constructive change constantly. Changing the colors of our uniforms is not constructive change; it is ornamental, with no constructive purpose, and it dilutes our brand while grouping us with the also rans of college football.

I imagine this is another one of Patterson's bright marketing ideas. It seems right up his alley, like jetpack man. I just don't see Strong taking the time to select new uniform colors. I like the black uni almost as much as his maroon and yellow checked suit at ASU.

White is the traditional 'away' game uniform, or at least a portion of it.

Black is not one of our colors.

Rotty, recruits haven't even signed to play for Texas. They do not have a vested interest.

Edit:

I'm going to add one more comment, then I am going to try very hard not to make another because I feel very strongly about it, and I don't want to say something that I will regret. It really bothers me to think about the Longhorns running onto the field in those hideous black uniforms and oil can helmets.

This is the point: Turf is hot, very hot. The black uniforms and particularly the helmets will make it worse. Any early start before a moderate cold front will make it much worse in those helmets. I cannot even imagine how miserable it would be, especially for the big guys.

1. once twice a year.  aren't all games significant?

2. again, recruits, players, coaches, if they want the change then get it done.  if you look at the merchandise at the co-op, there are blacks, grays, whites and burnt orange merchandise.  all of those colors add to the top brand; not just white and burnt orange.

they are fans just like us.  the difference is that they may have a chance to put that uniform on and get on the field.

I wear a black Longhorn cap when I golf because I have a fat head and black makes my overall appearance sleeker and slim head to toe.

My wife hates hats, says they make her head too hot! She would cringe at wearing a black hat in hot weather. But as long as it slims your head you are OK in my book.

Question 1. You wear them rarely. Once a year or once ever two years would be fine with me. Never for an UT-OU game. I think you wear them in places you're trying to recruit, for example, a DFW area game versus TCU or say we played LSU in Houston one year. They should be looked at as a recruiting tool nothing more nothing less.

Question 2.  You do it for the kids that want them and the future recruits that want to wear them. Something as simple as a jersey can sway the mind of a 16-18 year old. The buzz generated on all the social sites and in the media would be worth it alone.

This isn't a thing that you wear all the time. It has to stay exclusive/special. That way when they are worn all the recruits want to see the "sweet" longhorn jerseys.

Guys, gals – I probably care less about this than most of you as I know it's not up to me and I'll just have to live with what the powers that be see fit.

BUT – I do spend a lot of time outside in this Texas climate and can say with great certainty that I would NOT want my Horns having the disadvantage of wearing black during 100 degree heat, which is what is happening during some of our early home games.

So IF the unis do change and we wear something like this once or twice a year – make them night games and have a little mercy on our team.

Yes, Central Texas can be hot. But it's a lot hotter if you're wearing black from head to toe and especially around your head.

It seems like the new breed of recruits are going ape sh!t over the different unis. These are kids that do not fully understand the importance of tradition. I would like to know how many of our upperclassmen would like to change colors for a special game, they are the ones who have worked their butts off and have earned the right to play for UT. I wish we could get their input

He's right.
