I'm Hearing

If "unorganized" gets you and bcs win over 3rd ranked Florida and a 12-1 season next year then sign me up. Ha ha he isn't elite at defense?!?! Number 2 in sacks number 2 scoring defense. 26 ranked offense I mean auburn is only 11th. Just say why you really don't want him. He has those ranking/record with that talent. I wonder how many people really watch football and know it. He's won with two and three stars. He actually developed these guys. And while I believe it's harder to develop four and five stars than two or three stars he brings toughness and accountability to make it happen.

Torn here. Here too many denigrate Strong's "presentation skills." Say he's not the best with multitasking and organization, which speaks to lack of mental aptitude. How in the hell did the guy get all of the coaching positions if he's a dullard? I don't buy that for a second. Now, with that being said, I am now hear that he'd be the "diversity" hire, which also strikes me as BS. I'm Saban camp all the way, but if that isn't really going to happen and Strong is the most viable candidate left on the board; get the guy a crack Staff and some sessions with Toast Masters. Just stop trying to knock the guy down by saying he isn't intelligent enough for the Texas gig...without saying it directly.
-Actually, you're making an accusation with that last comment. Because a person can very well be extremely intelligent, yet be as disorganized as a small town after a tornado. And, same person can lack the ability to keep cool, calm and clear thinking amidst said tornado. Happens with a whole lot of folks, and I'd wager actually the vast majority wouldn't do well under a big spotlight.

My point, therefore, is IF the man has significant shortcomings in those areas, he probably is not the right guy for the Texas job, where demands on those skill sets are far more intense. I emphasized the "IF," simply because I'm not sure myself that's the case. I don't really know enough about him to be convicted on this, but it is a bit of a concern since I've heard it from more than one, including someone who absolutely is not the least bit racist or stereotyping of people.

Echeese,
Those are some pretty selective statistics for Offense, and I was including 2012 as well not just the one year.
selective? I don't care about yardage . .I care about points. .I care about moving the chains to sustain drives 3rd down conversion and TOP (they were outstanding) I care about not turning the ball over (again . .outstanding). ..red zone scoring TDs. . very underrated but important stat (well above average though not outstanding)

Sorry, can't find 2012 stats.

By all means.. . what other stats should we consider?

Thought UL was better on offense in 2012 but not sure. . .I'd say they were one of the top offensive teams in the nation this year and a GREAT package with one of the top D's. . .

Did someone seriously question their loss to UCF after UCF got 17 points and basically wiped the floor over Baylor???

Wow. . .

I do like the fact that he would represent much needed toughness and accountability, which are huge pluses.

if Texas does not announce something today or tomorrow I dont think its strong...or in the very least I think they are waiting for the two big fish.

We know about Saban...but there are some sources who say Jimbo Fisher would take the Texas job...read that just today. Who really knows other than Patterson and Sexton

If you go by that mentality then Saban would have never moved on from Michigan State.
To re-post Scipio along these same lines --

9. Be open to surprises. Be willing to take in new evidence.
Pete Carroll was a 5th choice joke of a hire for USC...until he wasn't.

Bill Belichick was the bum who got fired in Cleveland that New England fans mocked after his first year.

Nick Saban was a sub .600 coach at Michigan State sure to fail in SEC culture.

DKR was 17-13 in 3 years at Mississippi State and Washington before he came to Texas.

We can see their greatness in retrospect, but at the time, no one was standing on a soap box loudly guaranteeing their entry into the Coaching Hall of Fame.

It does seem clear that the longer this drags out, the better the chances for Fisher.

And probably/possibly Harbaugh.

Got this from a great source, Strong is very organized, so we can put that rumor to rest.

BTW: It was his D at UF that shut down the mighty Sam Bradford and OU offense in that BCS game in 08. Ole Bob did more against Saban with a red-shirt freshman QB completing 52% of his passes coming into the game;-0

Not a fan of waiting for Fisher especially if you are not 100% percent he will take the job. I also think waiting is not good for many reasons.

Strong with a big time OC(staff) is better then people think.

Strong would get a ton of play on ESPN and the dude can recruit Florida.

Agreed and we could be left holding the bag if he decides to go to Miami. If we wait there better be a back up to the back up plan!

At risk of being accused of racism I'll tell you why Strong isn't my favorite candidate. UCF is no joke but Strong was favored to win the conference. He also lost to a UConn team he shouldn't have. No one is perfect and I will support Strong if he is the hire. This thread seems to be full of people who call you a hater if Strong isn't your ideal candidate. People can disagree without being haters or racists. Get over yourselves.

A difference between not liking strong and not having supporting facts. Alabama was favored to win sec it happens. I just want to have a real discussion simply saying " I don't like him" repeatedly with no more discussion is toddler tactics

The whole Saban to Texas fiasco that was supposed to go down until Mack decided to screw things up, screwed us all over with this coaching search. We supposedly had the best looking chic in the school ready to drop her significant other and go out with us. She changed her mind because we couldn't get rid of ours. Now we are dwelling on what could've been with the best looking Senior and are blinded by the fact we have a couple smoking hot sophomore's ready to rip our clothes off... Granted they aren't the reigning homecoming queen and haven't fully reached their max potential of hotness but you can still see greatness if you stop focusing on the current hottest chic out there.

This is how I see Strong. If we stop focusing on Saban and a couple of the improbables... Strong could be a great fit for us. I think he has great potential and could get us back to the top quickly.

We're Texas, if Strong's the guy we can go out and hire the nation's best organizational expert for him.

Still in a holding pattern with Saban. This is not dragging out, we're just now entering the time frame where I think an answer goes down - now through tonight and possibly tomorrow morning.

Charlie Strong - relax, this is a back up plan. Yea, he has impressed, but a back up plan still. If Strong were the leading candidate, he'd already be announced and hired. Saban, Harbaugh, and Fisher have all got to say no before we talk seriously with Strong.

Only question in my mind is the order of Harbaugh-Fisher. It looks pretty close to me right now, not sure which is in front of the other. I do know that should Saban say no, things have progressed with Harbaugh enough that we could immediately begin talking numbers and contract with him.

I'll share anything I hear, not holding back today.

As of right now, Nick Saban is the only candidate who has been offered the job. We have not received an answer yet.

Most certainly not calling you a racists as everyone has their opinion.

Last time I checked Alabama was supposed to destroy a Sooner team that we beat. Heck, Saban lost to Louisiana Lafayette early on at Alabama. Bad loses happen to every coach.

Strong is not my first choice, but he has a very good track record and is a good coach.
