If you had the Texans #1 pick, what would you do with it?

How are the Texans doing with season ticket and suite sales? If they're lagging, I draft Manziel in a heartbeat. Houston is an aggie-infested town.
You're right when you say Houston has a lot of aggies living there. Since Houston is substantially larger than any other city in the state, isn't that to be expected? Houston also has a sh** load bunch of Longhorns as evidenced by having the largest Ex-Students Association in the U.S.

If I owned the Texans I sure as hell wouldn't draft Manziel for the purpose of insuring long term financial success. Short term...a sure thing (same as Vince would have been) but long term, it would be a huge gamble.

Trade down.
If we stay at #1 I'd like to see Clowney, Bridgewater or Bortles.

Manziel is too risky. A huge part of being a successful NFL QB is the work you put in and Manziel seems a bit too enamored with the spotlight to me. Plenty of sick athletes don't cut it at that level and it's not because they don't have the physical ability.
Bob McNair isn't going to take the risk of bringing in Manziel. Whoever McNair signs off on being drafted has to have an image consistent with what he has built since starting the franchise.

Besides, NcNair has just learned the hard way that when you let an aggy run a football team, you get a football team that plays like aggys. Do you really think he wants to learn that when you let an aggy lead your football team you also get a football team that plays like aggys?

I think even Case can do well with sufficient time to throw the ball and a receiver that is a serious threat.

So I am looking to trade down with the intent to get Evans (who I think will be an all NFL pro - and I mean soon)and a stud OL or two.

My concern is Foster - I think his career may be over and Tate just can't make a season without getting hurt.

Jadeveon Clowney predicts 'amazing' numbers at NFL combine

"The numbers I am going to put up are going to be amazing," Clowney said.
Clowney previously said he ran an electronically timed 4.46 40-yard dash, which would have ranked third

among running backs and tied for 11th among wide receivers at the 2013 combine. The difference, of course,

is Clowney is 6-foot-6 and has a good 70-90 pounds on those skill position players.

Trade down to later in the first. Trade for a 1st and 2nd round pick. And depending on who's left grab best available in the 1st and from there get needs.

Matt Cassel opted out of his contract

He has prior relationship with Romeo Crennel (new DC)

Possible target for Texans at QB

trade if there are any takers. No franchise QBs imo, but if CLE or JAX think they need to move up to get the guy they want, work 'em over.

Manziel will be an NFL bust. Texans have to fix QB spot, but lacking an Andrew Luck type of QB they would be crazy to draft any QB with 1st overall pick. I say draft Clowney or Barr and they are immediate contributors or trade down for multiple picks.

Here, SI's DOUG FARRAR says Houston should take Bridgewater

1. Houston Texans (2-14): Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville.
The Houston Texans clearly need a franchise quarterback as they start a rebuild under new head coach Bill O’Brien. And though there are several intriguing quarterbacks in this draft class, none possess Bridgewater’s combination of mobility, ability to throw on the run, capability to make every throw and command of the game that will pay dividends at the next level. Size is a concern, but take a look at Tom Brady and Drew Brees — NFL training programs can make quarterbacks better, faster and stronger, and Bridgewater has everything else needed to succeed.

He has JFF to Cleveland at 4, which I think would be ideal.

Stay put and draft Clowney. He is by far the most talented player in the draft. Clowney and Watt would give opponents fits. It was bad luck for Houston that there isn't an Andrew Luck available with the #1 pick, SO, don't make it worst by taking a QB that doesn't belong in that spot.

Trading down is certainly an option, but don't do it and then take Manziel or Bortles, that would be a mistake in my opinion early.

You can be certain that Bob McNair will botch the pick. He and JJ are in some sort of strange competition with Jimmy Haslam for the worst owner in the league.

Curious; are teams allowed to wheel and deal with the draftees right now? It's probably of no significance, but I heard somewhere that Bridgewater hired an agent out of Houston. Same agent Andre Johnson uses. Maybe a coincidence, maybe it's not that uncommon. Don't know.

Bingo....I'm with Granda Zorro...

They need to do what the Cowboys did back when JJ took over.....Trade #1 pick for multiple picks(get as many as they can) and start over.....Entitlement has killed the Texans, just like it did to the Longhorns...

Don't see it happening..

McNair is reported to be pushing for Johnny..

Despite what was said above, McNair is not Jerry Jones. He does not make draft picks (or trades or free agent decisions).

His son Cal actually played at UT for 4 years.

Cal is the #2 man.

Cal may look like a total doofus, but I have to believe there is something more to the man.

I am counting on Cal to prevent this from happening.

Avoid catastrophe Cal!

Act now, do not delay.

Wade Phillips likes Manziel too --

The former Texans defensive coordinator and interim head coach insisted he wished the Texans nothing but the best and also admitted he’d told owner Bob McNair when he interviewed for the job that Bill O’Brien landed that they should draft Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel, suggesting he could have the same impact Earl Campbell once had on the Oilers.
Phillips was a young defensive assistant for his father, Bum, during Campbell’s first three seasons in Houston.

Phillips called Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner “the kind of guy who makes plays nobody else can make. Having another Heisman Trophy winner from Texas come to Houston . . . I just thought that would have been neat to see.”

Shut your pie hole Wade.

No job offer? No wonder.

Jeez.

ESPN's Todd McShay likes Clowney No. 1 (me too)

1 -- Jadeveon Clowney*Houston Texans (2-14)
COLLEGE: South Carolina

AGE: 20

HT: 6-5WT: 258

POS: DE

Analysis: Passing up on a quarterback here, particularly in-state product Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, might be a public relations nightmare, but that would pale in comparison to the nightmares the combination of Clowney and J.J. Watt would create for opposing offenses. Clowney's production dipped this season and his motor ran hot and cold as the season went on, but he is the most talented player in this class and possesses a rare blend of size, strength and athleticism, and Watt could help him develop his technique and discipline.

If the Texans do end up taking a QB, don't be surprised if it's UCF's Blake Bortles over Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater. For starters, while Manziel is more dynamic and Bridgewater is more polished, Bortles has the sturdiest frame, outstanding mental makeup, good accuracy -- both in the pocket and on the move -- and the proven ability to deliver in the clutch. Plus, Bill O'Brien was an assistant under Bortles' college coach, George O'Leary, at Georgia Tech, so that could provide O'Brien with the confidence to take Bortles if O'Leary gives him the full stamp of approval.
