How Does Aggy Do?

also for aggy to be bowl eligible they have to win 6 games against fbs schools, so if they beat lamar which they used they have to win 6 more games to go to a bowl game

I believe only one win can count towards bowl eligibility if you play 2 FCS schools. I'm just curious which critical positions are filled with good players for Miss. State? As for Prescott embarrassing A&M, what QB didn't?

Miss. State has a very good receiver returning in Jameon Lewis. Another good receiver in Robert Johnson and pretty nice tight end in Malcolm Johnson. Also, returning 3 of 5 starters on the offensive line (but really 4 out of 5 because one of their backups saw a lot of the minutes). They also have a young running back coming back in Josh Robinson that averaged 5.9 yards per carry, just didn't see much time because he was behind a senior. They have some pieces on offense when you add Prescott.

On defense they are only losing one starter on the defensive line, one linebacker and one secondary player. McKinney is a very good linebacker and Market is one of the best safeties in the SEC.

They have plenty of returning talent to at least challenge for a 3rd place SEC west finish next year IMO. If Prescott is a star like I think he is, they can make noise next year. Miss. State was in almost every game this year and they are returning almost everyone.

Do you realize how many times people have been burned by thinking MSU was going to be good in years past? It's almost foolish I tell ya. ;)

I would not be surprised to see a 9-3 or 8-4 season. I have been quite surprised at how the past 2 years have gone, although I readily admit it has not been as good as they seem to think. I think the Aggies are starting to see how difficult one 10 win season is, much less 9 in a row! ; )

I'm actually one of those guys that has thought Miss. State was nothing but a bottom feeding team in the SEC West (I actually still think that in the long term). I like that roster returning next year though. That team was in almost every game this year, and are returning a whole bunch of players. I don't think they win the SEC west to be honest, but would not be surprised if they pull out a third place finish. It really comes down to Prescott. If he's a star like a think he is, the ceiling is high. They also have one of the most underrated D-Coordinators in football in Collins (FSU apparently has interest in him as their new D-Coordinator).

How many FBS teams actually play two FCS schools in a season? For that matter, other than the SEC how many FBS teams play any FCS schools? It's one thing to schedule a team a few years out and when the game rolls around the team is having a down year. It's entirely another thing to seek out FCS teams to play on a regular basis.

Losing Manziel, Evans and Matthews, 75% of their offense which netted four losses. Must find a new QB, plug a hole in the OL and somehow get their defense to stop someone in 2014.
PROBABLE WINS

Lamar

SMU

Miss State

ULM

COULD GO EITHER WAY

Rice

Arkansas

Ole Miss

PROBABLE LOSSES

South Carolina

Alabama

Auburn

Missouri

LSU

I put Rice in the "could go either way" category because they've improved and will catch Aggy early on the schedule, perhaps before Aggy gets it figured out. Arkansas is at a neutral site, but they show up well in Dallas. Ole Miss should continue to improve as the results of their recruiting starts to show. Aggy has had some nice recruiting in the last two years and some of that young talent got some PT late in the season. Should be interesting.
I agree with the first four wins.

They will beat Rice and Old Miss

They will beat South Carolina

They will be better than most people think. They have plenty of talent, but young. Don't sell aggy short.

It'll be an absolute tire fire. I think they'll be lucky to end up 6-6.

If that horrendous D wasn't obvious to everyone this year, it will be when they're struggling to put up 24 points every week.

None of those guys finished even honorable mention All-SEC. If you want to point towards the guys that will be playmakers look to their youth. Josh Robinson is poised to breakout this year (I'll give you this one), of course Dak is a solid QB. At receiver, you need to tout Da'Runyya Wilson, he was the standout receiver to me in multiple games and he was a true fish last year. On defense, Chris Jones at DT is a future high draft pick and had the best freshman season of all the SEC's highly rated freshman DL (Lawson, Nkemdiche). With that being said, I just don't see all the fuss about Mississippi State. Their offense struggled to score 20 points against even average defenses and they were pushed to the brink of defeat by the bottom feeders of the conference (Kentucky/Arkansas), along with Bowling Green. They beat one bowl-eligible team in the regular season. I get the whole going against the grain schtick but that team was pretty awful all season long and lose their enforcer in the secondary, their leading rusher, and their best lineman. I'm not proud of playing the FBS schools either, that needs to change starting 2015 for everybody.

Wow! My compliments to this entire community. I don't think I've ever read a Texas board Aggy related thread without some serious bashing. This has been very refreshing, a serious discussion. I love this board.

oops :)

If they go 7-5 that will be their 15th national championship in the modern era.
Aggy loves to talk about the "modern era" and"since we became aco-ed university" and crap like that to try and create the image the school was a sleepy, all-male school at a disadvantage to other schools. It's a load of crap. Texas started playing football in 1893, but it wasn't until D/X/ Bible came to campus in 1937 that the Longhorn football program really began to play as an elite program. The first Texas team to even be ranked number one in the nation during the season was the 1941 team that beat the number two ranked aggy team in its next to last game. By 1941, aggy had seen teams that had not only been undefeated, but also unscored on. TCU (1938) and aggy (1939) both had finished the season ranked number on in the polls before Texas was ranked number one during the season. DKR's 1963 team was the first Texas team to finish the season ranked number one. It is an absolute fallacy to state aggy couldn't compete on an equal footing with Texas until their "modern era" but of course that doesn't stop them from making such claims. Being an all-male school half the size of other co-ed schools pretty much means the male population of the two schools were the same. Aggy just went into an extended period of suckage for most of the past 75 years, seemingly ending with a fifth place finish in their conference and a seventh place finish in their conference, both fueled by the spectacular play of the greatest human ever to play the game of football.

Thursday, Aug. 28 at *South Carolina, Columbia, S.C. -- Loss. Next year might be Spurrier's best team since he's been at South Carolina.

Saturday, Sept. 6 vs. Lamar, Kyle Field -- Win.

Saturday, Sept. 13 vs. Rice, Kyle Field -- Win, but a possible loss. Bailiff has done a really good job at Rice, but I don't think they will have enough firepower to keep up.

Saturday, Sept. 20 at SMU, Dallas, Texas -- Win, but another one where SMU's offense could make it interesting.

Saturday, Sept. 27 vs. *Arkansas, Arlington, Texas -- Win. Bielma is probably another year from having a chance to turn it around.

Saturday, Oct. 4 at *Mississippi State, Starkville, Miss. -- Loss. I know it's nearly impossible to put any faith into Miss State, but they've nearly beaten aggy the past 2 seasons with Manziel already.

Saturday, Oct. 11 vs. *Ole Miss, Kyle Field Loss. See Miss State. They should have won the past two seasons, but Manziel pulled it out of his ass both times. Won't happen this year.

Saturday, Oct. 18 at *Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Ala. -- Loss. Next.

Saturday, Oct. 25 OPEN

Saturday, Nov. 1 vs. Louisiana-Monroe, Kyle Field Win.

Saturday, Nov. 8 at *Auburn, Auburn, Ala. Loss. Malzahn and his guys are going to be better next year. They will rush for 400+

Saturday, Nov. 15 vs. *Missouri Kyle Field Loss.

Saturday, Nov. 22 OPEN

Thursday, Nov. 27 vs. *LSU, Kyle Field Loss.

I could see them going anywhere from 5-7 to 7-5.
