Hermann needs to go

is bragging about this place being the premiere job in the country your athletic highlight???  why is it? is it just the salary that they can make here? is that what makes it the premier position?
It's because of all the recruits in Texas. A successful coach at UT has the ability to have a top 5 recruiting class each year.

I'm glad you have found the last three and half years to be delightful. I guess I'm just a more demanding fan than you are. Yes, I will double down on miserable which I would include the two Maryland loses  losing four out of five games to OU, four years of being one of the most penalized teams, an offensive line that can't open up holes for the running game. no Big 12 titles, a miserable defense that can't tackle, a coach that had to replace practically his whole staff and all of this with recruits that other coaches can only dream of.

Right now Herman is averaging 7 wins and 5 loses a year. I find that it absurd that you took time to dispute the use of using the term absurd. You are one easy fan.
Just got to love posters who have to tell you how great a fan they are. You are the best ?

Lol... no. Now, if you hand me the keys to your castle when Dabo says “no thanks” after Clemson bumps his pay, I’ll consider the wager.

Texas vs Clemson - I agree with you.  I agree with you 90 out of the last 100 years.  I’m talking about right now.  Texas football is a mess.  Right now I think Clemson is a better job ALL THINGS considered.  And there’s no way we could steal Dabo.

For the record, I hope you’re right. I would walk from TX to SC and carry Dabo back to Austin if he was interested.

By the way, to your earlier suggestion.... Golf is even more maddening than watching UT.
Ha, ha!  The bet was not my house against yours is was simply you putting up your house that he wasn't coming.  That being said, and I shouldn't even hint at this, you never know in the coaching ranks what could happen.  And you are right about UT in todays environment.  By-the-way, I will relate a little about the mercenary Brocks.  I heard they just didn't like hand and they thought they had a better chance at rings at Bama.  Although the league was a consideration, they felt confident enough to believe they could get there at any school.  And, finally, their treasonous dad had much to do with this as well.  Anyhow, that's the "rumor".

All of us should be aware of what the new administration (the AD and Pres.) are going to do with the football program.  I have repeated, ad nauseum, that we should always follow the money.  First and foremost.  Take off your fan hat and put on your business hat.  UT has been hemorrhaging money this past year.  And it doesn't like it.. So it is considering options to stop the bleeding.  Especially since the football program is the main sports money maker. (Don't even ask about the schools other revenue sides).  Although Herman's buyout is an obvious consideration, it is pimp money compared to what they have lost in the program altogether.  So they are considering their business options and if, you, the business hat were in their place what would you do to put a finger in the dike and maybe even jack up sales?

Get my drift, Mr. Business man?

EDIT:  And let me repeat one more tiresome thing.  If you think the university gives a damn what the fans want, you are sadly mistaken.

That's a strange reaction to my post.  Almost aggy like.  Bragging?  Athletic highlight?  Just the salary?

If I have to explain the whys to a so called "aUTfan", then you ain't one.

I damn sure am one. Texas is the face of Texas High School football whether you believe it or not and its a shame that it can't prove it on the field. Some folks just don't like hearing the truth. its a stupid phrase.

How many more trophies do we get for claiming we are the premier school to coach at? if it can catch us up to Alabama, I'm all in, ill start using that phrase too. Hell if it could catch us up to Nebraska, Miami, OU, Ohio St., USC, Michigan, or Notre Dame i would be happy. All those schools have more National championships then we do.

i want the damn hardware! I don't give two shits about that claim, it doesn't add up to shit!! Trophies do!! and we can't even brag about conference championships. I damn sure aint telling anyone that we are the premier school to be at unless I"m trying to make people bust out laughing like they just watched Robin Williams and Jonathan Winters doing an unplanned skit with Johnny f##king Carson.

We have 1 more big XII conference championship then Baylor and Kansas St.!!  and the conference has been pretty weak since Nebraska and Texas A&M left and we still cant win it.

Premier?.....ppffffffttttt.....facts don't support the phrase. Does it have the potential???? Absolutely! for the life of me I don't understand why we cant get a coach that dominates his entire coaching career here with the talent at his disposal.

and again, i'm really not advocating for PJ Fleck, i would like to see him with a couple more years under his belt but if I truly knew more detail about him then I wouldn't hesitate either if I felt he had "it".

Dabo Sweeny, even Bob Stoops werent even head coaches and theyve were/been pretty successful.

Just goes to show you that there isn't a recipe for finding that coach, it just seems like a dice throw.

I just wish Texas would find that lightening in a bottle that Alabama keeps finding regularly some how.

Using your logic, you wouldn't have taken Nick Saban either? cause Nick Saban did more poorly then PJ Fleck has at the same juncture.
You could see Saban's greatness as early as his Michigan State years.

Bama doesn't have lightning in a bottle. They just were the benefit of timing and paying attention to the scene. Like Urban is now, Saban was there for the taking. He couldn't go back to LSU, but he could go to Bama and still coach in the SEC. To that point, Bama was a poster of inconsistency. Crash and burn coaches, even ran Gene Stallings out of town despite him winning a NC there.

Saban has a system. He works the system and the system works.

Got it.  So, in your opinion, the only way a school can be judged as  "premier" is by how games it wins.

So by your definition, aggy is a 3rd tier school and always will be. They are simply in the same tier as Tulane. No matter how much of the farm they give away to hire a has been coach.

Not sure that anyone really saw anything in Saban while at MSU that indicated greatness. He coached five years at MSU and had one "great" year. His first four years, his record was 25-22-1. He went 9-2 in his 5th and final season there.

From there he went to LSU where his first 3 years were not all that much different than Herman's first 3 years at Texas.

I must confess that I did not see the greatness of Saban at Michigan State. Saban invited his whole staff to go LSU with him and the they all stayed at Michigan State with the new coach. That's what I remember.

Finding the right coach is pretty much a crap shoot. Very few colleges have ever hired a sure-fire, can't-miss coach. It just doesn't happen.

In the last 20 years, Urban Meyer is the only coach who really falls into that category when tOSU hired him after he has won 2 NC's at Florida. Bama getting Saban comes close.

He picked MSU's program off the ground. This is why he was hired away by LSU. LSU was just beginning to rise as a program under Saban.

But we're not after the next Saban anyway. We're after the proven commodity. Saban was still young back then.

Hopefully you remember how that turned out and who got the better result.

Get your facts straight. Fleck tied for a west title last year with Minnesota. Herman did the same his first year at UH. The guy who didn't a title since that's important to you was Mack Brown. Fleck has had success at a Power five school unlike Strong and Herman.

If it doesn't work out with Urban Meyer then  Fleck should be considered when UT does a coaching search.. CBS Sports has Minnesota to win their division and one writer picks them to finish in the top 10.

In his third season, Fleck led the Golden Gophers to one of their best seasons in over half a century. They raced out to a 9-0 start, their best start since 1904. By beating #4-ranked Penn State, the Golden Gophers beat a top-five opponent at home for the first time since 1977. In November, Fleck signed a seven-year $33.25 million contract.[42] Although the Golden Gophers saw setbacks with losses against the Iowa Hawkeyes and Wisconsin Badgers, Fleck won the coaches vote Big Ten Coach of the Year, sharing the award with the media voting for Ohio State's Ryan Day.[43][44] The Gophers went on to finish the regular season 10-2, their first season with double-digit wins since 1904. By comparison, Minnesota's two winningest coaches, Hall of Famers Bernie Bierman and Murray Warmath, never won more than eight games in a season. They also tied for the Big Ten West title, the first time they had won a share of a division title since the Big Ten began divisional play. They defeated Auburn in the 2020 Outback Bowl for their 11th win, their most since 1904. The Gophers ended the year ranked 10th in the nation in both the AP and Coaches College Football polls, their highest year-end ranking since 1962

Oh yes sorry I left out the fact with 3 games left  Minnesota had to win ONE of Wisconsin or Iowa and lost both. I guarantee you I have watched more Minnesota games under Fleck than anyone on this board has, he’s great at a place like Minnesota and has done great things with that program. I just prefer someone who’s won something before Texas. FWIW Herman first Houston team finished #8 and Charlie’s 2012 ( I believe) beat a good Florida team in the sugar bowl and finished top 10 ish I believe. If your willing to hire another wildcard guy that’s you cuz I sure as hell don’t.
