Daniel's Crystal Ball Picks

Giles isn’t a great recruiter even though he has a nice player development track record. It’s a tad bit troubling.
Okay, my next question is, does the staff recruit players with their position coaches or is each coach assigned a region?

We did fine, in fact, very good with our OL finish. But the difficulty there is related to the fact that OL and DL are weak positions in state this year.

DL, though, falls somewhat on Giles. DL wasn't as slim pickings as OL was/is. IMO, the 10th assistant needs to be assigned to DL recruiting and be attached to Giles' hip on all recruiting visits.
Yeah we got who wanted on the OL.  We got the 2 in-state guys we targeted and really went after and got the main OOS kid we put the most effort into.  Grandy was also the 2nd JUCO OL we offered so I'd say OL recruiting was a success.

And what is the deal with Ojomo?!? Is he brainwashed like Ossai and Wright?  I thought Daniel said we were the offer he had been waiting on.  Liucci at Texags is now saying the DC choice for aggy isn't from 1 of the playoff teams and a deal hasn't even been agreed upon.  Come on Coburn, V. Jackson, and Ojomo, use your head's and realize you'll be playing in front of a killer DB class in the future with all kinds of opportunities to make plays.

Coaches are assigned an area when they go out on the road, but obviously position coaches play big roles in recruitments that is specific to their position group. It’s imperative that recruits have a relationship with the coaches they will be around the most.

I think this year is a fluke, especially if Coburn turns. I mean our coach landed Ed freaking Oliver a few years ago and the kid absolutely destroyed. We'll bag a few bad very dudes next year.

We got Grandy, Moore, Graffiti, and the Utah kid.  Definitely not a terrible finish but we also lost on Tradore, Wire, Leveston, Livingston, JJ, Noah Banks.

Considering the need at that position and we had courted 4-5 JUCO's and came away with only 1

I dont see that as a screaming success but thank god we landed Grandy

While talking to someone about the Ojomo CB, my friend had a theory as to why. He said since Ojomo has not made any officials yet, then some of the picks are based off of, he is a better fit at aggy. Since you get more points for getting your pick right early on then that’s why all the CB’s to aggy. I don’t know anything about the picks but it seemed like a logical explanation, unless he’s been telling family and friends something.

Giles played a small role in landing Oliver. As someone at UH once told me, “the entire universe aligned” in that recruitment.

Rod Wright was recently hired as DL coach at ECU.  I wonder if he's an option some point down the line.
Big Rod has been making his way up the coaching ranks since his playing days wrapped up. I’ve been keeping an eye on him and Frank Okam who was recently at Rice.

Both Wright and Okam were apart of 2006 Championship team

90 Rodrique Wright – Senior
97 Frank Okam – Sophomore

If Giles can't do it, he should be gone. Don't keep him and give him a crutch. Damn. UT has the money to buy someone that can.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Giles is a damn good coach and has a lot of respect from coaches in this state, he develops good football players. Not every coach needs to be a great recruiter, you need to have some good developers too. Brick Haley was a good recruiter, but how did you like the way his DL played?

I usually agree with you, but not this time. In any business you hire the one that "can do". Two hires to do a one staffer job is a waste.

Nice to see you back DBOOK23. Hope you had a good football season. Do you still have a friend in the coaching staff?

Thanks! I played well this year and I ended up making the all conference team. My buddy is no longer on the staff but he is still connected with the staff, so I’m somewhat plugged in haha. Man thanks for asking about me I really appreciate that!

Not saying Giles needs to be an ace, but he needs to be producing at a higher rate on the trail than what he is right now. He has the skins on the wall and track record to sell recruits and he still isn’t landing guys.

DBOOK, where do you play?  Congrats on what sounds like a good season.
