*****CWS Update Thread****

ags take the lead by 1 in T12; 4-3 on an RBI single into CF, runner going to 3B is thrown out, but ruled that the run scored prior to the tag at 3B.

That last play should have been called interference. If the A&M catcher doesn't block the base line the run gets home.

That series kind of reminds me of A&M against Texas last year. Cal saved some arms and A&M is going to have to piece together an inning here and there tomorrow.

You are correct dabomb.  Interference.  But, nonetheless, they'll play the rubber match tomorrow and I think Cal wins.

TCU is a dangerous team if they can get by a very good NC State team in this regional. Mitchell, Young, Morrison and Alexander has to be the best rotation in college baseball.

Reminds me of last year. Not sure A&M has much left to throw.

These guys are done:

Kent threw 90 pitches on Friday so he's done.

Vinson threw 21 on Friday and 111 on Saturday so he's done.

Long threw 99 on Saturday so he's done.

Hendrix threw 100 on Saturday so he's done.

Stubblefield threw 65 on Sunday so he's done (coming off injury so he won't be able to throw again).

Guys that might be available but won't be able to give you many innings:

Ecker threw 42 on Sunday the most of his career in an outing a believe. Maybe he can give A&M an inning or two on Monday.

Schlottman thew 19 on Sunday. Can probably give A&M a few innings.

Simonds threw 6 and 9 pitches on Sunday. Maybe he can give A&M an inning or two,but he pitched twice in the double header on Sunday. I would guess he's probably not an option.

Martin threw 21 pitches on Sunday. Can probably give A&M a few innings.

Kopetzky threw 3 pitches on Sunday so he's probably good to go.

Freeman threw 28 pitches on Sunday so maybe he can give A&M a few innings.

Not sure who A&M will start, my guess is Schlottman but that's going to be a bullpen by committee type thing. Maybe A&M rolls with one of the FR in Hill or Larkins (not sure either have the ability to get you win in this situation though).

My guess is Bain will start for California, he's only thrown 25 pitches this weekend. Martinez and Fischer should be able to give them some innings out of the pen.

I was livid when I saw Taylor making that turn, I wonder if that's why Moss took his place on defense in the next inning.

Very well could have been.  If you're the baserunner, you HAVE to hold at 2B there and wait to see where the throw is going from the OF.  You are already in scoring position.  Risking taking 3B there is either a missed sign or a brain fart.

I'm going to disagree with utisdabomb. I don't think the catcher obstructed the runner. The runner was jockeying the third baseman trying to get him to give the ball back up, however if the runner was smart he would have ran into the catcher and forced the obstruction call.

It's a close call, no doubt. I don't mind the non call, I still think under the rules for "obstruction" that was a violation.

UCLA v Maryland game is a good one.

It is a lot easier to understand Virginia's woes this season when you see all the ACC teams still alive and playing well.

By the way, for the record, just want to say ESPN appears beyond help in developing their website.

They need to come to SXSW next year for a week and spend the entire week in a skunkworks, crowd-sourcing sessions, whatever it takes to come up with a sensible idea for categories and navigation.

Also, too many sites mimic Windows design elements and drive me bananas. This site is light years better than ESPN, in savvy and I think a lot in content.

I had to come here and read agamaniacmike's post to find out anything. Thanks, agmaniacmike! Good post. Excellent summary and detail.
By the way, the Cal-Aggie game was the best innings of baseball, from 7th (when I started watching) to the 14th I've seen.

Hell I even liked the fan shots the best, too!!

No prob, here's the website I have been using to gather all of the relevant data: http://www.ncaa.com/sports/baseball/d1

I just switch between the Bracket and Scores tab and all the info is there. ESPN redesigned their website a couple of months ago and the new interface is crummy.

The website referenced may be the only good thing to come from the NCAA. The lack of walk-up music and exclusion of basic things like a useful scoreboard and the singing of God Bless America has been driving me up a wall all weekend long. College atmospheres are supposed to be fun, but the NCAA "neutral-site" rules have made the home-field advantage stale.

Also, shout out to Houston and Rice playing into the 20th inning at 2 am local time to figure out which Houston school is done for the year. The host, U of H is eliminated. That 1:00 starting pitch tomorrow for Rice is gonna be gruesome coming off of 29 innings in one day. If they win that, I believe they may have to play another one at night.

Virginia has come back to make it 9-9 going into the bottom half of the 9th; USC is designated home team and will have one final chance in regulation to win it before extra inning. Virginia has 9 runs on only 6 hits and a win would earn themselves a trip to the Supers.

UCLA staved off a pesky Maryland team and will duke it out again tomorrow in a winner-take-all game.

Cal State Fullerton seals the deal with a 10-1 win, they advance to the Sweet 16 of college baseball.

Gents, D1Baseball.com is also a really solid site.

I may be in the minority here but my gut tells me aggy will beat Cal tonight.
