Connor Brewer, Still #TGOD

Maybe at tight end or defensive end. Even then, he's a project with little time remaining.
how much time does brewer have? bigger point is we HAVE a lot of QBs hopefully one of our 2 highly recruited guys make it. or the light turns on for swoopes or merrick is a diamond in the rough.

nobody and i mean nobody would have any interest if Brewer hadn't once been a ut commit. he's done nothing. don't we have enough 'i hope he's good...' on the roster?

I'm curious...raise your hand if you think Connor Brewer is a better option than Tyrone Swoopes.
Your question nailed the problem I have bringing in Connor Brewer. I'm sure most members would say Brewer when you think of Swoops against TCU and Arkansas. Unfortunately we don't any proof on how good Connor Brewer is because he doesn't have any college experience. Brewer was the fourth string QB at Arizona last year. I would like to think Swoops could have at least been third string.

Look, fellows, if Heard were to go down to an injury, we would be only slightly better off than the Aggies, since it is looking like Murray will probably go pro-baseball. Cue, Ag...ha ha!

Brewer would be a grad student with a great deal of time to watch film, throw to anyone or everyone, whatever. We have had the Swoopes experiment. Thanks, but no thanks.

I think many of us have affinity for Brewer having been part of the UT family at one time and that he could come back and help us.

Unfortunately, there was a reason he transferred from UT and while gone it seems he did not distinguish himself at UA.  He might come back to UT with some maturity and leadership on the field being older, but talent wise, he may only bring some competition... we already have that element at QB -  IMO.  If we have room and CS thinks we need the insurance then let's take him.

I was at the game UT vs. ou 1977 - starting QB Mark McBath goes out with a knee injury, #2 Jon Aune comes in and shortly thereafter goes out with a knee injury... most of us in the UT crowd were going ... ahhhhh, shit!

Earl and the D puts the team on it's back with 3rd string and scout team QB Randy McEachern who comes in COLD and engineers a victory over ou. One of the UT OL tells Randy - just do your job and hand the ball to Earl or something like that.

You never know....

yeah, watching film or throwing to 'anyone or everyone, whatever'. classic 'grass is always greener'.

reminds me of the kid who shot the 3-pointer and air-balled it. coach yelled at him and said 'why'd you'd shoot it" .  kid says, 'i was open'. coach says  'there's A REASON you were open.'

brewer was 4th string at UA for a reason. there's a reason he's on UTSA's list. again, if he had never been a ut recruit, nobody here would have heard of him.

i'll take my chances with the guys we have. not arizona washouts.

We need somebody capable of playing right away in 2015.

I don't think we wanna roll with Locksley, Merrick, or - perish the thought - Swoopes. It looks like Brewer may be an option again if Watson doesn't have somebody else in mind.
J. B....no mention of Heard...are you dismissing him as a viable candidate to take the reins and lead UT

at the QB position this fall?  He came advertised as the "Golden Boy" in last year's recruiting class with

tremendous credentials. You don't think he "fits" us going forward? Just curious, would appreciate your

reply as to Mr. Heard. Maybe he's not "capable of playing right away in 2015"?  Maybe Spring Practice

will shed more light on all this.

Honestly, jury is still out on Heard for most us.  I am unsure what to think or believe about him right now based on what has been said, the experts and pundits, etc.

There has been so much smoke and mystery around him that we really all need to see what he does in the spring to settle this all.

I am ready!

Like Worster1, I don't perceive Brewer as much more than insurance.

Yes, I want Heard to start if he proves capable this spring. I also want somebody other than a true freshman (with the exception of Swoopes) available to back him up. It's looking like competent grad transfers aren't interested in UT; Miller, Adams, et al. If Brewer is interested, I don't see why he shouldn't be considered a viable option.

Was he really 4th string at AZ last year? If so, I'm surprised. STP is right in one respect - nobody would want Brewer if he hadn't already been at UT previously.

I think we all want the same thing. A competent leader and play-maker at QB.

Oh, stp, c'mon, really? And, Florida's, South Carolina's, etc. I'll hand it to you, though, you are consistent. I'll even venture a guess that you would have never called the Street to Peschel pass, after all, it was doomed to fail. Wasn't it?

Next!

JB...i'm hoping Heard grabs the starting role and never lets go. However, I would say Swoopes has done more as a college QB than Brewer. I'm not as ready to kick him to the curb as most are. if he's our #2, fine.  no reason based on game experience to think Brewer would be better, so why why kill a roster spot with him?

Next honest question....why is it possible that Brewer could mature/have a light come on, but the same isn't said of Swoopes?

Doesn't matter what the experts and pundits say...what matters is what Heard does point forward in terms of proving

he has the leadership and talent to play great QB for UT. I think he does and I'm pulling for him. Everybody here

seems to so easily and readily give up on him. Maybe "everybody" here knows a lot more than I do about Mr. Heard.

That's entirely possible...I don't claim to be "in the know" about UT Sports and although I was intelligent enough to

earn a Degree from the U of T, persistent consumption of bourbon and branch since graduating from UT has killed

more brain cells than I had when a freshman at Jester way back in 1974.

I can't argue with that logic, but Swoopes' last two performances were so disgusting I don't know if I can stomach seeing him at QB again. And it's everything ; inaccurate passing, timid running, indecisiveness, body language, low energy. I just see him as the Cowardly Lion. Will the light go on this offseason? For our sake and his, I hope so.

Like many Texas fans, I'm just desperate for anybody to take the reigns. Maybe Brewer isn't the answer and we are reaching for JAG (just another guy?). I guess we've just gotta put our faith in Watson's assessment of our QB situation.

Really? His reaction times won't improve that much, and they would have to improve tremendously for him to be a viable option. It's not a knock on Ty, it's just a fact.

I was married to a brilliant man whose processing time, when thinking, was very deliberate. Other people process information quickly, make a decision, and go with it. It has nothing to do with intelligence, and I suspect that it can be improved incrementally, but not substantially.

i have no idea what you're asking me re brewer as a qb.

no...his possibly transfer here doesn't excite me. the qb everybody loves to hate here has done more than brewer. what else needs to be said?

and, no, i wouldn't have called street to peschel. only one guy in the world would have had the church-bells to do that. fortunately he was on the UT sideline that day.

Based on his last two games, I think we know Swoopes sucks.

Brewer represents a great unknown. Does he have it and just hasn't been given a chance to show it? His not playing any meaningful snaps at AZ is a concern. But, I think many of us are willing to roll the dice.

Are these the same pundits and experts that generate clicks by spreading rumors? Yep! Can't wait until Heard proves them wrong.

Hook 'em, J!

Ya think? who was the 3rd or 4th string guy at every school in America? can we get 'em all?!?!

they all have to be better, right?

I'm not asking about Brewer because he is an unknown. I do suspect he should have been Number 2 behind Ash, rather than Case. I was just teasing you.

Gotta hand it to DKR. He knew when to roll the dice. Watched that game with Daddy and others. He was yelling so loud after that completion that I'm certain they heard it in Arkansas. When he celebrated a game like that, it was almost like a taunt to the other team. My mom always said he was a great winner. It was fun.

This, but it still doesn't explain why Brewer didn't or couldn't win the job in AZ.
