If you were following recruiting via Twitter in 2011 and 2012 you’ll recall ‘Texas Gang or Die’. It was a bit of a rallying cry for a class that would finish very highly ranked. A class that was supposed to return Mack Brown and Texas back to the top.

Though the 28-man class had star power in Johnathan Gray and Malcom Brown, it has largely failed to live up to its tremendous potential, though there are still many contributing pieces to the class with talent. Sadly, the class reads like a ‘Who’s who’ of ‘what ifs’. Many players haven’t lived up to their considerable hype. Others were jettisoned for legal trouble or school infractions – a bit too much gang and not enough Texas.

One player who bled TGOD despite being from out-of-state was Arizona quarterback Connor Brewer. Despite offers from Alabama and many other top programs, Brewer settled on Texas rather early in the process. He immediately became one of the leaders of the class despite living a 1,000 miles away. Being a continual participant on the camp circuit helped that endeavor.

The camp circuit was indicative of his ability; Elite 11 quarterback, Under Armour All-American, etc.

At Texas, we never saw that ability firsthand. David Ash looked poised to be a 4-year starter before injury befell him. This would’ve been Brewer’s chance. But earlier that summer, it was known Mack Brown would settle with Case McCoy as his no. 2 and Brewer promptly transferred July 2013 to Arizona where his luck went from bad to worse.

At about the same time Arizona freshman Anu Solomon took hold of the reins, UT’s season was caving before it started as Ash was re-injured. Thrust into action long before he was ready, Tyrone Swoopes had an “eventful†season. Those could have been Brewer’s snaps, and he knows it.

Brewer believes those snaps are still his, if given the chance. He’s rather confident he’d win the starting job, in fact. UT’s interest thus far has been tepid, but with limited options already available before Eastern Washington’s Vernon Adams decided to transfer to Oregon, they may be running out of time.

The transfer quarterback who can play immediately finds himself in a seller’s market. Brewer can sell intelligence, understanding of the game, and Day-1 availability. He has official visits at his disposal to ensure he finds the best fit. Who’s “buying So far South Carolina, Florida, and UTSA have all requested visits. Texas is still on the fence.

I’m not advocating for UT to bring Brewer on board, but if the coaches want to, they may have to hurry or gamble with going into the season with the youngest stable of quarterbacks I can recall.

Personally, I’d like to see Brewer return. Aside from Texas needing the help, it would make for a great story to see Brewer back with the remnants of TGOD. - Eric Nahlin

Four scholarship QBs plus a preferred walkon who had his own thread. Sure, bring Brewer in. We need 6 QBs. For...competition, right?

I would love to see Brewer have some success. How much time does he have to play? One year?

We need somebody capable of playing right away in 2015.

I don't think we wanna roll with Locksley, Merrick, or - perish the thought - Swoopes. It looks like Brewer may be an option again if Watson doesn't have somebody else in mind.

did heard transfer? You know...the IT guy from last year's recruiting hysteria?

You make it sound like our cup runneth over at the QB position. We have one experienced college QB. If Heard and Locksley aren't ready next year then were back to Swoops. We need someone that compete for the starting or backup role.

I got no problem bringing on Brewer. Gotta think he could be a competent 2nd stringer behind Heard. The positives seem to outweigh the negatives IMO. Why not take a chance if no other decent options at QB present themselves?

Do you just like to argue for arguments sake? If Heard goes down or under-performs I'd rather not see a true freshman under center. And I'd rather not see Swoopes at QB ever again.

I never said that Heard shouldn't be given a chance to be the IT guy.

well, the biggest recruit of last years class redshirted presumably to start this year. Between swoopes and 2 other recruits and a preferred walkon that is the shit...yeah, a guy who transferred out of here and evidently is only coveted by the Ivys ain't getting me off.
This board seems to want anybody who ever took a snap at any level to transfer in. There's a reason Brewers name isn't mentioned elsewhere. How many JAGs do you guys want to 'compete'?

Well, the premiere names people mention aren't giving UT the time of day. Therefore, I will look for another option to keep the RS on Locksley as needed. But hey, I am no more of a CFB expert than you or the next guy. Plus maybe Brewer's good looking sister will make a TV appearance for Musberger's jaw and drool to hit the floor.

no do you? This board wants every JAG QB to come here for 'competition' why? Yeah...give my swoopes or locksley over brewer. Why not? Has brewer done shit anywhere else ?

Admittedly, his current suitors aren't world-beaters. They're not Ivy Leaguers, either. Spurrier and Petersen like him. That's good enough for me.

As of late, South Carolina, Tulane, Northern Arizona, Washington, Colorado State, and UT San Antonio have shown interest in Brewer's services.

N AZ and UTSA? If Swoopes wanted to transfer they'd want him too.
Look if Braxton miller calls, hell ya I'm listening. Brewers history isn't worth getting excited over, or even interested.

Heard and presumably Locksley are the future. We don't need any more JAGS.

I didn't say anything about Brewer being the right guy to bring in. Your confusing my post being pro Brewer when it was pro bring someone else in.
