Ash is great news.  He very well may have ended up as tOSU’s DC had we kept on “searching.”  

This is who I wanted after reading the philosophies of each “candidate.”  Aggressive 4 man front!  Since I publicly said he was my choice - I commit to not griping for 2 1/2 games....

We are running TCU’s defense with Texas talent. This is awesome news

Hiring Chris Ash seems like they just pretended to do a DC search so it didn't look like Herman was doing the comfort-friend hire even though Herman knew that's who he was hiring all along. Risky move. It will look before if the rumors of Larry Johnson & Kerry Coombs coming as well are true. And the LB coach hire has to be a home run one. If not Herman will probably win 8 games next year just off Sam & a more experienced defense. And that should be all we need to see to know he needs to be fired.

I bet most if not all head coaches have a short list of asst coaches they would hire if necessary.  And 80% of the time they know them and have worked with them in the past.  “From scratch” coaching searches are almost always fabrications.  

We agree on the LB coach.  Important decision indeed!!

Evidently not vetting is a similar to the methodology Herman uses to hire coaches. ?

Hopefully it will help with Collins as the stud DE but if not, Jones, Bimage, Mpagi, Carson, and Ojomo should be able to produce a decent rotation group opposite of Ossai

Graham, Bimage, Ossai coming off the edge.  Sounds good to me.

any word on when he is coming on staff? If it is right away then he has time to implement many alignment changes. That 4 man front could come against Utah . When you think about it, there is as much time to get ready for the Bowl game as there is in spring football.

Likely no, he wants the entire winter/spring to do his stuff and likely won’t get the staff filled until after bowl games, we will likely be looking for a elite LB coach

I DO NOT have a problem with the hire of Ash as DC. I have a HUGE problem that Herman did not search for a DC. I have never been fully on the Herman train(1 foot on, 1 foot off). 2nd foot is at the edge now. This is  an unacceptable coaching search. I’d this is the “search” he is doing then he might as well say, CDC, make my hires.

Good gosh... He either hired to slow or too quickly. 

Coaches are doing coaching searches *all the time*. The idea that he didn't have an idea who he may want halfway through the season is silly. They know more than most what's going to happen after a season is done.

Ash may have wanted time to see if another HC gig came up, or if someone would money whip him... who knows.
