Coaching Changes, Rumors, Misc.

Call me old school. Human beings are still made of the same ingredients, same motor responses, same motivators. The only thing thats changed is we're a fast food society now. Everything now. More for less.

While it may work, one must always wonder how good they could have been if they had truly been pushed. If you're smiling all the time, getting rah-rah'd all day, you're not being pushed.

Today, everybody gets a trophy. There's no glory in that. Easy come, easy go.
That is not what I am implying. I am a firm believer in being held accountable and everyone does not get a trophy. You played for Dennis Alexander. Based on what I saw from the stands one time, he was a hard ass. However, he had lots of success. His style today would not work. The majority of the kids today are not raised like we were.

If it was Harrell I think he’d be hired by now. I think the staff will end up being Morris with Samples at WR coach and Beaty coaching the ST and TE
Not necessarily... even if an offer was thrown out there he'd be smart to take that back to USC and see how much he's worth.

I’d hire Ash if SHA is right in that we are getting Kerry Combs he’s the best in the business besides Atkina
Again, the DC is the most important hire, IMO.

I know little about Ash, but if hiring him means we get Kerry Coombs, I'm good with that.  Walk through walls for this guy. Talk about creating a new, more powerful identity?

That is good stuff. This guy gets it. I would like to see him at Texas.

Yeah, I played QB for Alexander. So I had my facemark grabbed a few times. lol

I agree, his style wouldn't play today because the world is too anally retentive. IMO, thats not a good thing and young people are cheated (as well as society) because of it. Character is not built today's way.

As far as Kerry Coombs I’m a big Titans fan and  also Texas obviously and I will say since he came over to the titans last year he’s a hell

of a DB coach. Would be an excellent hire imo although I think Washington and to a lesser extent Naviar are very good recruiters. However, Coombs list of guys he’s coached at Ohio state speaks for itself.

We need guys that will challenge our players and help them improve as men and football players. The buddy mentality does not work. That’s why we constantly underachieve because we have players that think that they are better than they actually are. In the words of Mike Singletary “I want winners!” The only way you become a winner is by being pushed to be your best each and everyday and that’s hard coaching. Sign me up for ash, sign me up for muschamp, sign me up for someone who isn’t satisfied with just being okay, we need a coach that’s going to expect us to be the best damn D in the country. This passive coaching bull crap is why we have a secondary full of 5 star talent with 1 star results. These types of coaches still exist. Go get one of them.
Thank god I am not the only one that sees this.

This should be a sticky.

If the rumor mill is correct, I’’m rooting for Ash or Scalley.  I just prefer a 4 man front.

There’s nothing wrong with 3 DL as long as one of your LBs is a pass rushing specialist... so Heacock wouldn’t be a bad choice either.

What I really don’t care to see is 7 DBs on the field to combat the pass.  So Steele... he looks good at Auburn.

I don’t want to hear “dial up pressure.”   Keep 4 hands on the ground with an every play  job description that includes “get to the QB.”   Pressure isn’t a scheme or a play... it’s a way of life!

just my thoughts.  Be gentle.

Orlando’s scheme was good against the run.  It was even better When facing a less than athletic qb like Jake Fromm.  You could force him out of the pocket with a blitz and the speed was gonna get him before he got to far.  The big 12 has far more athletic qbs than Fromm though.  The issue I see with a three man front is you have to have the personnel to employ it.  If you get in obvious passing downs you need to have 3 guys that can beat 5.  Doesn’t always happen.  Everybody and their momma knew Orlando was blitzing on 3rd and long and it was a secondary blitz.  Opposing QBs would watch the blitz and throw to the void in the defense.  When he didn’t blitz there was no pressure and the DBs had to cover longer that anybody should expect.  I don’t like a 3 man front

Per 247 this morning, a source close to Graham Harrell is claiming he's reached out to at least one other coach about working in Austin, and he's possibly already been offered the job by Herman.

Harrell was waiting to see if USC would retain Helton before making any decisions.

Waiting to see if Helton is retained and

Apparently he gave a lot info to Herman that said the scheme etc was not good. It apparently is what helped Herman make the decision to let Orlando go.
Okay, but that can be more than a little self-serving and certainly undermined Orlando if Ash is hired.

His time would've been better-served developing winning defensive game plans, IMO.
