I was in Florida earlier this month and saw two of the Astros' exhibition games. I was not as impressed as some of their beat writers are. Their supposedly better hitters still cannot put a ball in play with runners in scoring position. In the 2 games, on four occasions, with runners on second with less than 2 outs, neither Castro nor Chris Carter could make contact. Unfortunately for me the Astros had shipped out Geo Springer & Carlos Correa earlier the morning of day the games I saw. I know two games is an extremely limited number but I cannot understand why management has such a low opinion of Marwin Gonzalez- he's an excellent infielder and hit the ball hard each time at bat. Another player whom I was impressed with was Marc Krauss- he only had one hit (one game) but made hard contact on two other at bats- he also runs well to be a really large man. Only saw Robbie Grossman twice but really has a sweet swing. Matt Dominguez seems to be a little too laid back- needs a little more fire- but good fielder. Two young relievers who threw hard and threw strikes, were Josh Fields & Zeid (spelling). Although I'm not real high on Lucas Harrell but he can bring some heat at times- he seems to suffer with control, but if he ever gains control I think many fans will look back and realize that management made a good decision in being patient with him. Scott Feldman did not impress me. A player for the Phillies who really impressed me was a young catcher, Cameron Rupp (spelling ?)- has a cannon for an arm (threw out one of two base runners and I thought actually got them both) and hit the ball hard on all four at bats.
I truly believe the Astros will be tough in two years.
