2026 PORTAL

What really need is 3rd string QB,can he block 300 lb DT? Or we can always believe talking head on OTF or locked on Longhorns, thought BK & CJ were pretty straight shooters. Guess they got put little propaganda to keep people listening.

This is just a low cost insurance piece in case Manning and Lacey get injured. Nothing to get excited about, but just imagine if both did get hurt how many people would be moaning about burning Bell’s redshirt and the coaching staff screwed up by not signing a cheap 3rd string qb.

All that said, as a completely uninformed fan I would still want us to sign a starting LG. That would be something to get excited about

Texas is currently hosting former Georgia OG Jamal Merriweather. He is a redshirt sophomore who is 6'7, 305 lbs and appeared in 12 games last season. He has played 56 snaps at left guard and also some right guard. He also played five snaps at OT.

Patience is a virtue. While you were typing this, Texas began hosting another OG player.

We don't know whats going on behind the scenes which is why patience would serve us all well.

Burton listed the depth at OL. He said he doesn't think there is anyone in the portal better than Jordan Coleman. Coleman could be our LG for 2026.

Christian is also in the running, but he is also the 2nd string center.

LT - Goosby, J. Coleman or Chatman, Turntine

LG - J. Coleman or Sikorski or Chatman or Christian

C - C. Robertson, Christian, N. Robertson

RG - Baker, D. Coleman, Newman

RT - Siani, Cojoe, Scherer

I was at a UT-ou game when the UT #1 and #2 QB's both went down early in the game with season ending injuries. In stepped Randy McEcherin to save the day. 2 QB's are not enough.

Wow!🤔

Okay, he must have taken the 7 am flight. lol

He was depth, so he wouldn't be the hired gun everyone is looking for. But it does show Texas isn't leaving stones unturned. Several complained Texas wasn't trying to host guard prospects literally while this visit was getting underway.

I don't think anyone really knows what the staff is doing right now, visit wise. I would like to see the redshirt freshman from Indiana visit though I don't think he's the veteran we're looking for.

I think we'd be okay going with what we've got, if we have to.
Here's my guess. It's a guess so take what it's worth and get yourself a cup of coffee.... QT not Starbucks.

Our coaching staff knows good and well that OL is our #1 need. Sark said as much. Last year I think they failed to recognize the need... this year they know it. Therefore, they had every intention of signing two or three top-notch, plug and play OL and a few younger OL to develop. The problem isn't that they're prioritizing backup QB or that they don't know. If there is a problem, or blame to go around.... it's that they failed to win the recruiting battles for the top notch players they wanted. I think they went all in for the Guard and Tackle from MeChicken... and fully expected to get both. Both went back to Michigan for less money than Texas offered. I think this took them by surprise.

I don't know what else has happened.... but I imagine it has been similar to what happened with the Michigan OL-men. Sark said OL was a priority... so I assume they tried. I don't think he forgot and I don't think he decided not to pursue OL in the portal because he is satisfied with what's on campus.

I hope there is still a player out there, with starting potential, that Texas can go after.... if not I expect the starting lineup to be: Goosby, Baker, Robertson, Cujoe and Siani.

We will just need to see development from players for our guard spot. Something we haven't seen...

Oh and we have to pray no one of the 4 decent linemen we do have get hurt.
1. I disagree. I believe we've seen some pretty good development on the OL since Sark / Flood arrived. I do admit LG was really, really bad last year until our starting center moved over there. But be that as it may, several players have been developed quite well on our OL the past 5 years.

2. I agree.

AWESOME! I watched this on TV. Earl's senior year. This team went undefeated with McEacherin the rest of the season... until Joe Montana and Notre Dame played spoiler in the Cotton Bowl.

Took me a while to figure out what MeChicken was. at first I thought you were talking about a McDonalds menu item.

both OTF and IT have been very critical of the failure by the staff to shore up the OL. CJ Vogel gave them a C-. Eric Nahlin of IT, a D. Nahlin in particular was very critical, and he couldn’t understand how Texas could not find a decent LG.

These guys aren’t dummies, and they often temper their criticism. Not this time.

You'd think had plan B. Hate think of Coleman as 2nd team.1 injury
