2026 PORTAL

My first memorable game on TV was Texas beating Navy in 1964 Cotton Bowl followed by 1965 Orange Bowl of Texas beating #1 Alabama and Joe Namath.
🤘🏻
Mine was Texas vs ND in 1970. James Street led the Horns to a victory and I was "hooked"! I ran down the street to a buddy's house after the game doing a double "HOOK'EM"! I had the pleasure of talking to James a couple of times later in life, great guy! What was so weird was how much bigger and taller I was then him, but he was one tough hombre back in his days! Still one of my favorite Longhorn players ever.

Nothing. He's as big as a building and athletic! Also, he stayed at Texas and didn't leap in the portal... Nothing at all!

I think we're all a bit gun-shy for two reasons:

1. Like it or not, Texas has a hype machine second to none. Political parties ought to hire the likes of On Texas Football - and they would never lose an election. Going into every season, we are convinced that Texas has way more talent than they did the previous season, because every recruiting class is the best thing that ever existed.... from three star uncovered jewels to four stars that should have been five stars to five stars that are better than our departing All-Americans. I remember Bobby Burton saying that Wingo was a better prospect than Jeremiah Smith... as one example.

2. PTSD from last season. We were told this time last year - that the coaches liked what they had on campus and advised no portal additions. Specifically in the OL and WR rooms. Then, Umeozulu (slotted to be the LG in 2025 for two years) was inexplicably beaten out by Stroh - and we were told it was because Stroh looked SO GOOD! I don't think Umeozulu (who On Texas Football said was a better run-blocker than any starting guard for two years) ever saw the field? Stroh was so bad we couldn't pass or run...people ran through the left interior like Olympic sprinters! Stroh was replaced by Brooks (hyped up by On Texas Football as a unicorn) and things may have gotten worse.

The bottom line is, that I believe a lot of people are not believing what they hear reported in the Burnt Orange media. Furthermore, they don't trust player evaluations from the coaching staff - reported by said media. We whiffed on guards in the portal - I think we all agree. But now hearing that Coleman looks good causes us pause based on PTSD.

I hope Coleman is a champ. As a matter of fact, if he is.... this offense takes on a whole new optimistic look!
Nailed it on the head with this post. Going into the season, I think we all had high hopes that 2025 was going to be a better year than 2024 with Arch as our QB. Despite losses on the OL, we trusted the coaching staff developed the younger linemen with seeing how Goosby filled in admirably for Banks late in the season. Plus with Arch being more mobile than Ewers, we might be able to weather an OL that wasn't as good as the year before. I think we are all a little more cautious about being optimistic after what happened last year.

My first memorable TV game was Texas vs Tennessee in the 1969 Cotton Bowl. I remember watching a few games in the 68 season with my dad, but I wasn't impressed enough to put down my GI Joe and stop saving the world from the Nazis.

The first game I remember watching on TV was the 1969 Arkansas game. After the game car horns were honking all over Austin.

Now this one would be a culture fit, right?

I don't know, really. I just post any and all info I come across. Being Navy, he would likely be a more experienced run blocker than a pass blocker. That may not matter. But he does have starting experience and talent, which is what Texas wants.

LSU projected starting guards are the backup OT from Baylor and a rotational and special teamer from Ole Miss.
