Some of these NIL deals can be a life changing amounts of money, so it's naive to think it's not an important part of the decision. Sure there aspirations are the NFL, but there are no guarantees.
My assumption is Oregon offered him a deal that paid enough more, and he was comfortable with the program, coaches and development... so even though is preference was Texas he initially picked Oregon.
To really be the Jones's, we need to win more then our share of these high end athletes, to do that we need to pay based on what the market dictates. I can't blame these guys one bit for working the system. If I had a kid I would advise him to do exactly that.
