2024 Baseball Season Thread

Is there a place to go to see who has committed to Texas in baseball? Every site has this for football and basketball - but I'd like to see our baseball commitments.

No he has not. I think the question for him is more MLB vs return to Texas, though I guess the portal is the 3rd option.
Yes.... I actually think it is likely he goes pro. I'd love to see his progression under Weiner's tutelage. LBJ has elite arm talent.

7 flips now. We are going to be way better moving forward. I love Schloss and crew aggressiveness in upgrading the talent level

This is a good breakdown of the offseason changes.

And a link to the 2024 class.

and a rankings list of the college players but only the top 10 players are veiwable unless you create an account (there is a free option)

Signee Bryce Rainer drafted 11th by the Tigers. Slot value of 5.7 million.

Austin Westlake and Texas signee Theo Gillen drafted 18th by the Rays. Will be going pro (per an interview with him)

Signee Levi Sterling drafted #37 by the Pirates. It's a 2.5 million dollar slot value. That's likely high enough to have him skip college ball but if we've put together a decent NIL package, maybe not.

Jared Thomas selected 42nd by the Rockies. A nice result for him as late 2nd rd to 3rd/4th round was definitely a possibility. 2.2 Million slot value for the pick so unless the Rockies try to low ball him majorly, he is likely gone.

Damn. Thats not good.

The top two were guys that were pretty much locks to go pro.

There was some hope we could get Levi Sterling on campus if he slid in the draft but that didn't happen.

Jared Thomas was definitely the most likely Junior to get drafted and go pro and that looks like a done deal.

Gotta watch Jalin Flores, now.

3rd round starts tomorrow and those picks come with 1 million in signing bonus slotted value. Drops to around 500k by the 5th round.

Jalin Flores announced he will be returning to Texas today. In other words, didn't get drafted high enough to consider MLB so essentially pulled himself off the market.

LBJ drafted by the Rockies. Pretty high pick for him based on a subpar season. He has a lot of potential.

Drew Rerick, stud 2024 pitcher who fliipped from A&M to Texas also withdrew once the 5th round passed.

Sounds like anyone drafted after the 10th rd most likely stays commit or returns. The MLB teams have so much for the draft and most if not all use on the 1st 10 rds.
The question will be on LBJ as he is slotted around 500k and does Texas NIL match or does Rockies even have that much amount for him. Most drafted after the 10th rd is 100k or less.

I was going to ask you or BWilk if you thought LBJ would return. Seems like he could increase his value and decrease his time in the minor leagues if he stayed another year at Texas.

When does he have to decide? Has Texas hired a pitching coach?

The pitching coach came with Schloss. He is a supposed stud, came from Mariners system to A&M. They call him the "Arm Farm".

Question for LBJ would be do Schloss and Co see him as a guy they can develop and fix his issues from the past season in a way that drastically raises his stock going into next years draft. The 5th rd spot he got picked in was a pretty good result for him but he pitched much better 2 years ago than he did last year.

Tanner Witt was drafted as well, I think 12th round. Coming off 2 injury riddled seasons, that is good for him. I do think he could potentially return and of course a healthy season would likely raise his draft stock but he is also getting up in years to start his pro career.

Remember, drafted players with eligibility to return have a lot of leverage in discussing deals with teams. You lose all that leverage if you have maxed out your college eligibility because you have no other option than to sign with the team that drafted you.

Well, should he return? Yes. Would he? That probably depends upon what the new staff has told him about where they see using him and helping with correcting any techniques. Is he comfortable with the new staff?
As far as the NIL, I have no idea what he is slotted for making this past season and for this upcoming season. If he liked what the staff told him and the NIL verses the slotted amount from the Rockies isn't a difference maker, he may decide to comeback. Other points of interest that LBJ has to consider is A ball better than college baseball? Not certain about crowd size of playing in front of matters to him, but some of the SEC games might be in front of larger crowds than what goes to A ball.

So, 1 commit was drafted in the 14th rd as was Tanner Witt. I would guess that the commit has a better NIL than what he could get in the 14th rd and the same goes with Witt. But could be wrong.
