The NCAA gave every one an extra 7. Then there is the 25. Total of 32.

Any others would have to carry over from last year. And they used those spaces on transfers Dunn , Davis Worthy etc. Time will tell.

My understanding is they had one carry over. So that would allow 26+7=33. Either they have more then one carry over or they are talking about using grey shirts(delayed scholarship) or maybe he is counting preferred walk ons.

In the world of NIL it seems like only a matter of time before preferred walk ons at a school like Texas are paid well enough to attract athletes that could get scholarships at other programs.

Yep, this will be one of the unintended consequences of NIL. Scholarship limits could easily be circumvented this way. Heck, your 5 star studs could help you free up room for recruits by dropping their scholarships. Bijan is bringing in millions, could easily pay for his schooling if it meant Texas could sign another 5 star lineman.

Texas is recruiting ATH Dillon Bell of the Houston Kinkaid School at WR, and his recruiter at Georgia is their WRs coach Cortez Hankton.

Cortez is the brother of Cordae, who works as an analyst for Texas' staff.

Texas is in no position to tell 5 stars they don't have room. LOL

There is no difference in the number signed by Texas last year in 23. But  there is a difference in the rankings as ESPN mainly looks at highlight film and the rivals/UA/Nike camps not senior film.  Whereas 247 looks at everything  to come to their final standings. Thus 247 as become the best to follow on star rankings as most were once at rivals, but now at 247 over rivals and ESPN.

Just look at the fact that ESPN claiming King the aggie QB as a 5 star. If he is a 5 star so was I  way back in the timemachine of the 80s and 90s. Plus a was an OL then. 

Just guessing that Mattews is still looking around, and nothing else.
