Good question. I would say "sorta."Legit question,
i wasn’t on here thru J Heards recruiting. Was the talk with him the same??? Because I believe he was #1 dual threat that year. Just curious how the hype compares. He obviously didn’t work out at that position but was def a different offensive game plan then.
Heard made his living at Denton Guyer on the broken play. Pass play called, protection breaks down or receivers are covered – off went Heard. In that sense, he could take over a game. You'll notice that his brief success at the helm at UT was when he improvised. Big 12 defenses caught on, stopped it, and stopped Heard.
Heard was never a real QB. He didn't study film. He didn't read coverage. He was just a superb athlete playing QB in a RB type role. From time to time, he would connect on short or intermediate throws. Heard got his notoriety mostly from leading his team to state titles. He had the benefit of being hyped by DFW media.
Johnson can wing it like Heard did, but is a more complete QB who is a QB first, athlete second. He can throw all the passes, shows some touch when needed. He is equally dangerous with his feet and has a scat-back feel to his game, making people miss, breaking knees and dropping jaws. IMO, he's a perfect fit for Tom Herman's offense.
