2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

A lot of activity out there saying Texas has a new commit on the Defensive side of the ball. Bimage? Could it be Chaisson (please let it be Chaisson)? Mods hearing anything on this?

TFB

Commit Watch?: We are told that Texas is on commit watch. We checked with the recruit, who we can say is a prospect on the defensive side of the ball. He would not confirm one way or another whether or not he would announce today. He simply said, “we will have to seeâ€.

Whether said recruit announces today or not, we feel confident he will end up at Texas regardless at some point. – (Andrew)

Thanks for reading my mind and posting at the same time. That's why the mods here are the best. They anticipate so well.

Kam Curl: I spoke with the father of 2017 DB, Kam Curl (Muskogee, OK) this morning and it sounds like the recent Texas offer is going to finalize his visit schedule tonight. Curl’s father tells me that as of right now it’s looking like they will visit Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas with a tentative Texas visit date of around January 20th.

Again, that visit schedule should get finalized sometime in the next day. As of right now, TCU is considered the favorite in Kam’s recruitment. – (Super K)

Does Beck help us woth any recruits? Seems everyine he was recruiting for Ohio are EE's which gives us no time to flip

Because Sterlin Gilbert opted to pass on him and Riley Ferguson. Either one could have been had. There is a lot that went on.
Well make that Gilberts and Strongs mistake.

Strong never landed and/or passed on experienced JUCO/Transfer QB's his entire tenure at Texas which includes his second year after seeing Swoopes wasnt the answer.  Gilbert wasnt here.

Strong left the decision of quarterbacks in the hands of his OCs/QB coaches. I was told that several times. He let them hand pick their guys.

He is known as a terrific recruiter, with existing Texas ties.

Here is how Nahlin thinks the recruiting territories will be broken down (subject to change)

Spoke to my friend this evening. He is pretty stoked. I mentioned to him that some are a little hesitant to embrace the Beck hiring due to the bowl performance. His response was:

1) Ohio State was the greenest team in the nation when the season began, and

2) Beck was not their play caller.

What he asked me to forward to the doubters was that this is Herman's offense. All Beck is being asked to do is execute Herman's offense (call plays).

And, more importantly, we just walked away with the three best recruiters from Ohio State's staff under Meyer. If you liked the recruiting results for OSU over the past few years, you'll like whats going to happen in Austin. He predicted a TOP 3 national finish for Texas in 2018 recruiting.

He thinks this is the best recruiting staff ever assembled at Texas. And he said Herman is quite the closer.

I asked about the rest of the 2017 class to come. He offered no specific names but said he thinks there's one we haven't heard much about who will be a part of the class. Said player is supposedly a 4-star.

I asked him about Drayton and Beck. He loves them both, both are great recruiters/coaches/people he said. He thinks Drayton will be the best recruiter in the Big 12 next year.

Another person I know who is connected told me we're about to have a defensive commit, but wouldn't tell me the name.
