If we go by the ESPN list, this is an above-average year in state, with 48 of the top 300 from Texas

38 of that 48 are now committed, leaving only 10 left uncommitted

Breakdown of the ESPN 38 by school --

Baylor 7

A&M 6

TCU 4

LSU 4

Houston 3

Ole Miss 2

Alabama 2

Oregon 2

Stanford 2

Michigan 1

Minnesota 1

Arizona St. 1

Georgia Tech 1

OU 1

Texas 1
And to think those 6 recruits going to ags to play in front of

Whaley says he will “likely†take an OV to Miami next month.

He was committed to Georgia when Mark Richt was the HC.

Richt now at Miami.

Its hard to imagine UH has more top 50 in state recruits than Texas does.

Wonder if Strong has anymore magic with recruits after going 5-7.

Its early but being dead last in that list looks terrible.

Even with all the troubles at agland and they still have 6 and we have 1 should be concerning.

Now Whaley going to visit Miami even though his buddy Curtis is committed to the good guys.

So is it presumptuous to say we only get a chance at some of these recruits when all hell breaks lose at their first choice?  agland or Georgia.

UT is ranked 5th of the in state schools for top in state talent.....wow

Then again HoeU has only one as well.  Houston > ou...lol

Texas has 12 commits right now. Higdon says the class could have as many as 27 when its all done.

How about we wait until we have the other 13-15 commits NLIs faxed in before we start wringing our hands over how many were in the top 50.

Higdon thinks we already know the two TEs we are landing this cycle
He is calling this twosome a "tremendous" upgrade in talent.
And even saying there will be more positions with similar upgrades from this calss

I still think we look good to land a pretty stellar OL class.  We are not there yet but it looks like we will be.  We have not had a great truly OL class in a long time so this will be quite the relief.  Hopefully (with Gilbert/Mattox) our OL recruiting and training are now finally unified with the overall offensive scheme.  If so, this OL class will pay huge dividends down the road.

The same cannot be said for our DL recruiting, especially at DT.  This current DT scramble is pretty troubling.

This was a loaded year in TX and LA at this position.  Back in the summer it was looking fabulous for us with KJones, Jordan Elliott, J-Mad, Fowler, Thornton, Taylor.  So good that we did not pursue Chris Daniels despite ties we could have leveraged.

The situation looks alot different now.  Now we are throwing hail mary's at Daniels.  If not for WIlbon, would we really be in deep trouble.  While the depth chart actually looks OK for 2016 with a healthy Green Mile back, 2017 is another story.  2016 was THE YEAR to build depth but we appear to be fumbling the chance.

I don't know, last year's class will look pretty good when its said and done. Two freshmen (Vahe, Connor) won starting positions. Buck Major will be too valuable to keep off the field next year. That's three starters who might get locked in for the duration of their careers.

Buck Major is going to be special.

Uncommitted players Texas is still in the running for:

Dontavious Jackson

Jeffrey McCulloch

Brandon Jones

Jean Delance

Devwah Whaley

Kyle Porter

Quartney Davis

Lil'Jordan Humphrey

Chris Brown

Eric Cuffee

Christmas-Giles

Stephon Taylor

Darius Anderson

Deontay Anderson (to a lesser extent)

And then the flip candidates:

Patrick Hudson

JP Urquidez

Zach Shackleford

Irv Smith

Michael Williams

Jordan Elliot

Mark Jackson

Erick Fowler

I still refuse to get caught up with who we have and don't have right now. Based on the way the staff closed strong last year, you have to think they'll do it again this year. This staff likes to work quietly and behind the scenes so a lot of things aren't known to the recruiting fanatics. I think we probably sit in better position with some of these uncommitted players than many think.

Talked with Christmas-Giles again yesterday and nothing new with him.  He will release his list of top schools on January 1.  Texas will be on that list, as will LSU he tells me.

I know I read somewhere where Brandon Jones said that he and Deontay Anderson would want to play together. If we land Jones I like our chances a lot.

Buck Major is going to be special.

Hopefully that is correct.

But, in terms of an OL class, compare it to an OL class consisting of Imade, Okafor, Delance, Hudson and Urquidez

+ Aucoin who is sort of an extended tackle

That class would be foundational
