2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

now can someone remind me of this..after reading so much of missed threads last night strong said there were 4-5 spots available and Higs thinks it could be less than that..did i read that correctly?

What I've enjoyed most in all this is what's not said. Strange as that may sound.

The players themselves, through social media, give plenty of clues and innuendos.

To that, a little insightful writing by those in position to do so ... provides necessary spark to the conversation...............

It's definitely alot different

The two big changes being--

(1) Mack Brown and his recruiting philosophy are gone; and

(2) The social media aspect

Combined, those two things make this the wildest recruiting year in a very long time for us.

However, I have to believe that now is not any crazier than the 1980s (and into the 1990s) when our program had to fight every day just to stay afloat in a sea full of cheaters.

You had aggy, SMU, ou (Swtizer may have been the cheatingest bastard in the history of sports)

Plus there was Arkansas and UH

Even TCU got caught cheating (poor Mike Wacker)

About the only school (besides us of course) who wasn't was Rice (and maybe even they would have if they had (1) the $ and (2) the interest)

Could you imagine if all of that had happened during the digital age?

Someone would have hacked the records of Switzer and his cronies -- Instagrams from the sooner athletic dorm? Are you kidding me!

At SMU, you had all sorts of shady bankers, oil guys, car dealers and future gov'nors.  Their texting alone would have sunk them.

The fedex records of aggy would have been posted in here.  Snapchat pics holding wads of bills and an opened fedex box would have appeared daily -- making Tim Irvin's the other day seem trivial.

So, I guess we can say it is crazier now for Texas fans who follow recruiting because of technology (and no MBTF).  But, in actual fact, the days of the heavy cheating had to be nuttier, it's just that alot less people were aware.

What do you guys think?

The implication is that, when Charlie said that last night on LHN, that he was already considering two or three commits in the bag -- silent commits I guess.

Otherwise, he would have said 7 spots left.

Watson has visited Gentry
Now already back to see Soso

I hope Watson spent 5m showing him how the MLB now works, and the different possibilities that exist for Murray being drafted and accepting the offer.  And thus never actually playing at Texas

McNeal is built like a brick house

He could play lots of different positions (and did in high school)

During the Malik/McNeal recruitment this site and other said that while Malik is by far the better recruit now - in three years McNeal could be the better player.  McNeal has the higher athletic ceiling - just needs to stick to a position and get coached up.

He is well aware his family wants him close.  But he definitely has appreciated the max effort UCLA and Mora himself have made recruiting him (Texas dropped the ball on Newsome for ~ 3 weeks).

He will be a terrific PR/KR and slot receiver for us or Bruin.
I'm guessing the whole T Irvin commit did not help if CS saw him returning punts and kicks. They probably don't know what they have with J Burt as well. It would be interesting to see their "draft" board.

But at what position?

He looks like he will have to work at staying lean if he wants to stay at WR

Juan, I agree with your post, but would have to note that Bud Wilkinson of OU was the biggest cheater of all, back in the 40s and 50s. That is how he had those long winning streaks. The NCAA finally blew the whistle on it in the mid-50s, but it was just a slap on the wrist, and they were back doing it again soon after.

The social media has been a game changer. Its hard for us old guys to adjust to it.

Sounds like Norvell went with Watson to see Gentry

And Strong phoned him as well

We are at least fighting back

(not to mention Michigan is also looking at other QBs now)

FWIW - Some people think that Mack picture was last weekend when he visited AtM.  He was supposed to visit TCU last night, and I haven't seen anything saying he didn't.

Mack was an LSU lean at one point and is supposedly a Chavis fan - so it shouldn't surprise anyone if he flips back Aggy.

Any news if Mack is visiting us this weekend?
In his War Room last night Ketch posted a line about another 'surprise recruit' being in this weekend - but Ketch shortly thereafter deleted that note.  People are speculating Mack might visit this weekend - and that he canceled his Auburn OV to do so.

The Tech recruiting guys are saying that Warren is visiting this weekend. So it doesn't sound like he's going to visit aggy.

Apparently we are very serious about the JUCO WR Reed who will be in this weekend

According to Higs, our coaches watched his film and "immediately said we can't turn that guy down. This kid is REALLY REALLY GOOD."

The idea is that we do not have a single WR on the team that can do what Reed can do.

Reed already has an existing with Norvell.

And at least one of our other coaches has a good relationship at his school

He will be a tough pull from his home state, but apparently we feel he is worth the effort

Even if it means he is taking a spot from someone else they like alot

The one hangup for us may be grades.  That wont deter Arkansas
