Help me out: with the prospect of losing up to 4 starters on the oline, who would be the projected starters opening day next year. I know woth the portal things can change in a flash. But, as of today, who are we projecting to start and what drop off (if any)

Hard to say right now with too many unknowns with the draft and portal.

Cam Williams and DJ Campbell could be your RG/RT next year or they could be in the NFL.

The USC IOL who visited could portal to Texas and take a guard spot.

C – Either Cruz or Cole Hutson

RG – DJ Campbell (I think he comes back)

LG – Malik Agbo, Jaydon Chapman, Andre Cojo or Nate Kibble or USC portal guy

LT, RT – Brandon Baker, Trevor Goosby

Cam has declared for the draft. Connor Stroh may be your backup tackle.

I posted before I saw this from Horns 24/7:

Apparently Majors could return if he chooses to use his Covid exception. But we are definitely losing Banks (draft), Williams (draft), Conner (eligibility/draft). And possibly Cambell (draft) & Majors (draft). We could possibly be replacing all 5 starters.

Goosby played well replacing Banks. Hopefully we sign the USC kid as far as experience goes. While there will probably be a drop off early on, the oline should still be pretty solid. Starting a new quarterback, I sure hope so.

Cam has not declared as of yet

What about Neto Umeozulu? Is he primarily slotted for RG? He could slide over to LG. Guy is nasty. Looking forward to seeing him.

Losing Banks is a blow, but I think the OL will be better overall talent wise and more athletic. I think Campbell and Williams come back. Neto is an upgrade over Conner, Goosby is solid at LT. Cruz will be a talent/strength upgrade over Majors, but Majors was a 2nd QB so I expect some miscommunications and wrong line protection calls. Luckily, the Horns will have a mobile QB to help the line out. Even if Williams declares, I think Baker is a talent upgrade over him.

Neto has some work to put in. According to Burton, he's not ready for prime time.

My best guess:

RT - Baker
RG - Campbell
C - Cruz/Roberson
LG - Hutson
LT - Goosby

I do think Neto will make a play for a guard spot that would allow Hutson to play C. Hutson knows the calls so the staff would love to have him there if they can find a guard to step up.

Pregnon committed to Oregon so he isn't portaling here.

Texas is losing 2 tackles to the first round of the draft. I don't think Baker is a clear upgrade over either of them until we see it. He didn't play any meaningful snaps this year.

We don't know that yet. I suspect if he can be disciplined on the snap count, it will be better than what we had at one spot.

It is next man up at this point. Isn't this where the developmental skills of Floyd take over? And I'll posit this, there won't be a statue in the backfield next year. Arch has plenty of experience eluding a rush.

IMO, we had a good OL, not a great one, this year. I think the fanbase's expectations got so high because our OL has been so horrid the last 10-12 years. We have some up and comers who are very talented coming back. Keep in mind, Cam Williams was a 3-star coming to Texas. His replacement will be a former 5-star.

FWIW Goosby was also a 3 star, replacing Banks who is a former 5-star. Seems like the evaluation from the services doesn't always line up with Flood's.

Well the oline, at one point, was considered or in contention to be the best in the nation. And that narrative led to expectations that didn't always reflect on the field. I think Sark knew in his heart what he had up front. And I'm sure that had to do with the decision to abandon the jumbo package after 1 attempt...

Our Tackles and Center both played damn good. It is our Guards that left a ton to be desired. Hopefully DJ can take a step up this year.

I don't see Hayden getting drafted. Way too many blown plays this year where he just whiffs. And he is very slow and lumbering to pull.
