2024-2025 Transfer Portal Thread

So far all quiet on the western front.

The one starter that we thought would portal was Manny Muhammad. He cleaned his X account from Texas stuff. Today, that stuff went right back up. Looks like UT ponied up a bit. Looks like he's going to stay.

I think . .

I dont think the NFL has a grass field. I could be wrong, but I haven't watched the NFL in years.

And if you're lucky, you could be drafted for the hybrid grass/turf fields below:

NFL fields that use Desso GrassMaster

Desso Grassmaster is a hybrid grass sports playing field surface that is a mix of artificial fibers and natural grass. The combination was developed in 1993 by the Dutch company Desso Sports.

  1. Green Bay Packers, Lambeau Field, Desso GrassMaster
  2. Philadelphia Eagles, Lincoln Financial Field, Desso GrassMaster

Savea returns to Arizona.
Johntay is kicked off the Washington Huskies.
No more Texas players into the portal at this time.

2:30 hours left in the day and aside from the DJ Campbell decision to return, no news on Texas players.

Now, players could submit transfer paperwork tonight, make no public announcement and we won't know for certain until late Friday but that is not how many players operate currently.

No announced portal entries. Some could have put in paperwork and not gone public yet but I doubt it.

I'm cautiously optimistic that this is the team rolling into Spring camp. I think there was some chatter about them looking at one of the two PSU WRs that entered, but haven't heard anything since.

Interesting article on Ewers decision ti go pro.

"So, why wouldn't Ewers be a mercenary, take the NIL money, play another year of college football somewhere else and enter the 2026 NFL Draft, when the salaries for first-year players are likely to increase?

"Texas was the only place he wanted to play college football," Riley Dodge, Ewers' high school coach at Southlake Carroll, told Horns247 on Wednesday. "He wanted to leave Texas in good standing.""

So many questions running through my mind with that quote...
Is the writing on the wall that he would not beat out AM by staying another year?
Were the coaches going with AM regardless?
Does that mean that AM was better than QE this year?
Would him staying prompt AM to portal?
Was Sark trying to give Quinn the chance to win a national title instead of playing the better AM?

Some questions are better left unanswered.

Ewers staying at TX for a fourth year would have created serious issues for the QB pipeline.

I would think this scenario was discussed during AM's recruitment. In the end I think Sark handled this difficult situation pretty well.

Does this jive with his decision to go to tOSU? Maybe it is speaking in the present tense only.

I also think the Tom Herman offense didn't lend well to Quinn's abilities what-so-ever. I'm sure that played into it as well.

There was general agreement that Manning would sit for two years. Everyone knew this to be the case even if an actual gentlemen's agreement between the three was never spoken. If Quinn decided to stay in college one of them would have to portal.

As for this year, throwing Manning in as the starter towards the end of the season is a risky move. At the beginning of the year it was reported that Manning hadn't quite learned the ins and outs of Sark's offense yet. During his starts when Quinn was injured Sark made a point of talking about how Manning needed to be better in the mid-game, where Quinn is really good.

Maybe by the end of the season Arch was getting close, but hard to know. It wasn't a natural system to him like it was for Quinn who played a similar system in high school. The Arch package was a great idea, but for some reason he didn't go to it enough especially at the end of the last game. Arch got hammered on his previous carry, so wasn't sure if he was banged up a bit.

All that to say there are probably no definite answers to any of the questions, and Quinn made the decision that was best for all of them.
