The SEC thread

There used to be a time when the AP decided the national champion. Thank god those days are gone.

Anyways this starting to blow my mind. Just seems to be over thinking it.

Whoever wins between 2 top 6 teams should be should be ranked ahead of the other especially if the records are identical AND this all happened within a week time span.

Agree also as long as ND and aggies have just 1 loss, I'm putting ND ahead of aggies. I may be biased but I had Texas ahead of 'Bama because of the records and head to head last year. I don't care what week they play.

The polls are so weird. Georgia is ranked +2 ahead of Bama now, even though Bama beat Georgia head to head
Vandy only got 26 votes for Top 25 after dominating #1 Bama in time of possession but the hapless ags move up +10 after beating an overrated Mizzu team.

Make this make sense.

I bet we beat ousux and Ohio State beats the ducks leaps us to claim #1 spot. Musical chairs
The polls make sense sometimes and at other times not. It is a good source of discussion. And it is always good to see your team at #1.

The logic is actually not flawed. Rankings in general are a flawed exercise, especially early in the season. Some combination of power rankings based on how good a team is expected to be going forward and their past resume.

But you can't rank teams based soley on head to head results.

Bama has a big win over Georgia and a loss to Vanderbilt
Georgia has a big win over Clemson and a loss to Bama.

The wins are better for Bama but the loss is worse. Both factor in.

I am curious to see how those two are ranked by KFords Most Deserving Rankings tomorrow. An attempt at an objective approach to ranking teams based on the on field results.

Today's games

#1 Texas 34 #19 Oklahoma 3

#8 Tennessee 23. Florida 17 F/OT

#7 Alabama 27. South Carolina 25

#21 Mizzou 45. UMass 3

#5 Georgia 41. Miss State 31

Vanderbilt 20. Kentucky 13 (4th 1:02 left)

#9 Ole Miss 20. #13 LSU 16 (4th 7:02 left)

And LSU beats Ole Miss in overtime, 29-26

Vanderbilt beats Kentucky, 20-13

0U's B.Venable is already the only Oklahoma coach to lose to Texas twice by more than 30 points.. This is only year 3 and his record is already worse than Blake's record. I'm wondering if BV might have a 5 yr agreement with AD Joe Castiglione since Riley left the program in such shambles.

I doubt Venables has any agreement, any unlilely informal agreement wouldn't be honored if ou decided Venables was a liability.

Venables current buyout is about 30 million, not sure how much it goes down after this year. Assuming their season goes as badly as many expect, it will be interesting to see if they let him try a different O coordinator, or show him the door. Seems it would be difficult for Venables to attract a top flight O coordinator after this year. Kind of reminds me of Charlie Strong getting a 4th year and managing hiring Sterlin Gilbert.
