A friend of mine who is also a Horn once offered me a trip to his lease in the Hill Country. He had nice sized Whitetails, but also Axis, and some others. They were fenced in with 10 ft poultry wire.

As he was explaining his set up, I realized this was shooting fish in a barrel. The lease was only 300 acres. There were three feeders. The deer had trained themselves to flock to the feeders whenever they'd hear the feeder motor going.

Of course, you'd be there in an elevated blind some 100 yards away and only at the time the feeders go off, and all you had to do was make a shot when they showed up to eat. You could pick whatever species you wanted to, but some are pretty high priced. He offered me half price for a big whitetail buck.

I had to decline. I appreciated it but it just was so clearly not a sporting thing in that set up.
Agree, might as well go to HEB and get it.

Where my family goes, they don't even feed the deer corn. Old school baby

Looks like an archery kill. High fence or not, that's a nice trophy with a bow and arrow.

I'm not a hunter so this is the first time I've heard of "high fence". So basically, the animals are trapped in a confined space and you're guaranteed to kill an animal.

Why not just setup an octagon and put you and your chosen animal in it? Then you can use your hands to kill it. That would seem more challenging and satisfying that "shooting fish in a barrel" (as was stated above)
if you go to SE Texas you will see these deer proof fences that high dollar ranches use to keep "their deer" on property....they forget that the state law is that the deer belong to the state of Texas, but the King and Kennedy ranches will argue they are trying to keep their herd genetically clean, and not introduce a bunch of culls to breed with their super deer.....being a hunter not sure anymore how I feel because I never got the opportunity to hunt one of those trophy ranches....those ranches coincidentally have large rattlesnakes on them

I killed a 5'6" rattler in my front yard in September and I'm in Central Texas. They are large everywhere, it's just that the less populated areas have less people to cull them out before they can grow so big. The largest one I ever killed was 6' back in HS.

Nothing is guaranteed. However I refuse to hunt high fences

Yes it is. And a lot of the high fences are big properties. The one I mentioned was 3000 acres, which is approximately 4.5 square miles of rugged terrain. A bow hunt can be challenging in a situation like that.

Saw on CBS Sports they're expecting Mitchell to turn pro. With his main core of WRs gone, makes you wonder if Ewers will join them in the draft?

do you live in that black dirt area like Manor, Elgin or Taylor, maybe even Creedmoor, those were notorious for big snakes when I grew up in Austin

I would have to see a link to this. I grew up in Kingsville and I NEVER saw a deer proof fence on King Ranch property. ...Fact is....they would not allow it. The Kennedy Ranch is a whole nother animal. Sometime in the 70's the Kennedy Ranch came under the ownership of the Catholic Church and they use it as a cash machine for oil, solar, wind farming and hunting. It is their right to do so. While the King Ranch does lease out property for hunting operations, I am pretty sure they will not allow the operators to high fence it.

I think JT Sanders is a special athlete. Fast, amazing hands, and strong as an ox. But the man can not block at all. Helm will help us with the blocking. Also, Helm had several nice catches this year. I think we are sleeping on him a little.

I'm more worried about 12 personnel (1 RB, 2 TE, 2 WR). Whenever Juan Davis got on the field I was less than impressed. Sark runs a lot of 12 and I'm not sure we have a good 2nd TE at the moment.

I think our base grouping is 11, but he could also utilize a 21 grouping. I could easily see a 3 WR set on most plays, in fact, this is the true base of Sark's RPO, layered offense. This is exactly what he ran at Bama and was pretty much what was run here with Mitchell, Worthy and JWhitt. We saw some 12 personnel, but I would bet the predominant set ran was 11. Maybe I'm wrong.

UPDATE:
I was wrong, sort of. Sark does use a lot of 12 personnel (38-40%), but uses 11 more (54%). So, you're previous statement about having two good TEs stands. Hopefully Davis breaks through.

Sark can adjust, personally I would like to see more 21 personnel packages; when doing so, we average at least 7 yards per play, not sure why we dont run that more
