Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Spot on.

Been saying this for a week or two now. If things end up with 4 undefeated teams, that will eliminate all teams with 1 loss.

And as you say, the less undefeated teams there are, the more teams there are with 1 loss. That will really make things interesting for the playoff committee. Of course, there are Texas fans who believe we would get in just because we're Texas. Maybe, maybe not.
We just need to take care of business. Win, Win, Win, Win. That is all we can control. After that, it is out of our hands.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda. We lost to ouSux and that's on us. This has been a very successful season and hoping the start of a good streak. Just sit back and enjoy it. No need to worry about things outside of our control.

Let's put the Card/Ewers "controversy" to bed please. I think Hudson Card became a serviceable QB while Ewers was out. But he didn't show well against UTSA or Tech. He was serviceable against Alabama and was good versus West Virginia. Card's stats this year are not impressive. Benching Ewers for a QB who had one good game and several good moments in games seems hard to defend. But I'm sure Johnny Depp would agree with you.
I will support whatever QB is behind center as long as he is wearing Burnt Orange, Im a MM fan but lets be real he is odd man out next year as far as QB1, if QE is gone I would be shocked if anyone other than #16 is behind center next year

As far as I'm concerned there is no Card/Ewers "controversy. Ewers was QB1 all the way in my book.

But I think Card gets too much of a bad rap for his play last year. In the 4 games that Card played last year, he improved his stats each game. In other words, his next game was always better than his previous game.
His number of completions went up game by game.
His yards passing went up game by game.
His completion percentage went up game by game.
His number of TD passes went up game by game.
His passing effiency rating went up game by game.
His QBR went up game by game.

The Texas Tech game was actually his 2nd best game as he guided Texas to a 31-17 lead with 4:29 to go in the third quarter before the offense stalled and the defense collapsed. To his credit, with only 21 seconds to go in the game, he did drive Texas 46 yards for the game tying field goal and send it into overtime.

And against Alabama, coming off the bench, he first put Texas in the lead in the 3rd quarter and then literally did all you could ask for by putting them in the lead again with only 1:29 remaining in the golf. Sorry, but he was better than serviceable against Alabama.

I don't think QE comes back. Even with this being a loaded QB class. (Williams, Maye, McCarthy, Penix, Nix, Daniels, Beck, and Sanders all in the mix to go in the first 2 days of the draft). Especially if he comes back from this shoulder injury and plays well. NFL will recognize the talent and he should cash in.

Arch has the pedigree and the hype and just as much talent if not more. Maalik has the extra year of experience and game experience. The biggest difference is the ability to run that Arch has that Maalik doesn't. I think that may ultimately be the differentiator when the competition is over.
p
Seems like stating the obvious but our OL is far better now with Banks, etcs than it was when Hudson Card played here. Not that I would choose Card over Ewers but just saying
No only the OL is better but both Card Nd Ewers would have played better if not injured.

Not a prediction from me, but nothing about Ewers' career path to this point suggests he's even considering returning.

Either way, there will be a major QB competition going the entirety of 2024. And still think Arch will ultimately win it.
I agree.... Bobby Burton and his crew agree as well.

Bobby said something that I adamantly disagree with. He said QE, last year, was far better than MM this year. He might have a case if you only remember 1 quarter of QE vs BAMA last year - and the OU game. Certainly avoid OSU and TCU if you want to stick with what Burton said. I get that MM needs to avoid the other colored jersey, but Ewers was not good last year. Dreadful in a few games.

If Manning wins the job in 2024, MM will transfer somewhere and ultimately be in the NFL. I can't imagine how good MM might be under Sark for 4 years. But I understand Manning is just that good to warrant the prediction.

And just for the record - Ewers has been developed into a very good college QB. He is an asset to Sark's resume as a QB whisperer.

Statiscally this year, Maalik is not even close to Quinn's numbers last year.

In fact, Maalik's numbers so far this year are basically the equivalent to Quinn's 3 worst games last year.

Kinda hard to compare them Ewers had a lot mor practice time.

1 Ewers go pro.
2 After spring Maalik portals.
3 First game Arch runs , hard hiy outfor season.
4 Wright and Owens battle it out for starting.

Nightmare!

Murphy seems to have problems in the second half so let’s play him for the first half and Arch for the second.

Texas Longhorns LB Jaylan Ford Says Team is 'Pissed Off' Due to Lack of Respect

Texas Longhorns linebacker Jaylan Ford doesn't think his team has received the respect it deserves this season.

Texas Longhorns linebacker Jaylan Ford was all smiles following Saturday's thrilling 33-30 overtime win over the Kansas State Wildcats but admitted that he and his team were "absolutely" pissed off headed into the pivotal Big 12 matchup.

Ford thinks that those outside of the program aren't giving the Longhorns the respect they deserve despite being ranked in the top 10 of the AP Poll since Sept. 10 and boasting an 8-1 record headed in Saturday's meeting with the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth.

It's a respect thing," Ford said of why the team is 'pissed off.' "I just don't think that people outside of this organization, I feel like we don't get the respect we deserve all the time.

"And my message to everybody on the team was we gotta go take it. If they don't want to give it to us, go out there and leave no doubt that, at the end of the game, they should be saying this is a good team. This is a great team win, a good team. They got heart and they play with physicality, all those types of things. At the end of the game, I don't want to leave any doubt or any question about it, and I feel like that's how we get our respect."

Ford says he feels this lack of respect comes from the teams that Texas plays.

"I don't think we're respected well enough, from opponents," Ford said. "Honestly, I think that's just something that you have to have in order to have an edge. Just looking for something to drive this team, and we kind of just used that and ran with it."

As far as TCU goes, Ford says the jury is still out on whether the Horned Frogs are going to give the Longhorns the respect they deserve.

"We'll see how much they respect us," he said. "We got to go out there and play."

Ford, who has established himself as arguably the top leader of an elite Texas defense dating back to last season, came up with a huge fumble recovery in the third quarter of the win over K-State. After Longhorns defensive end Ethan Burke sacked K-State quarterback Will Howard, Ford jumped on the ball.

Though K-State would end up coming back and tying things up, this was a turning point in a game that came down to the last play, though Ford and the defense were able to come up with a crucial stop at the goal line in overtime to secure the win.

The Longhorns will be hoping there aren't as many tense moments on Saturday when Texas and TCU kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT.
