Generally speaking, most teams have one of their fastest or possession receivers at the slot. whether its by scheme or because the safeties get burned a lot is somewhat immaterial, the safety on the short side of the field (boundary) has been giving a 10-15 yd buffer to the slot receiver. Okiehoma and UH exploited it on a consistent basis. You simply can not give what equates to more than a 1st down the moment the ball is snapped.
You'll also notice there are no LBs in pass protection. The only real good pass protection LB is Ford so Texas did a lot of blitzing during the UH game with not so much success.
I was hoping Texas would bring in a nickle-back and go to a cover 1. They have to figure this out or every DC worth a plugnickle will exploit this scheme.
