Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

perhaps not in total RB production, but I think there should be improvement by the individuals.
yeah, I think it will depend on a now experienced OL.  An experienced OL should help KRobinson and Brooks be more effective than last year.  I wouldnt be surprised if we see Baxter become a mainstay half way through the season the way Bijan did his freshman season if not earlier with a better OL

Jackson can coach, develop and control the room. Seems like Marion had trouble in that regard.

If the WRs produce in the field, go to the league and NIL continues to go well for Texas, a potato could recruits WRs.

Agree, only because Texas doesnt have a true #2 or #3 SDE after Sorrell THIS year. Burke, Tapp, & Vasek have the body types to turn into SDE but this year they just dont have enough weight/strength at that position - yet. This COULD change by Sept but I doubt it; it's just hard to put on 20 lbs of good weight in such a short period of time.  A SDE needs to be around 260-280 to be an effective SDE.

Sorrell (Jr): 6'4 260 - effective but could use more good weight

Finkley (So): 6'2 248 - ideal for WDE; needs 10-15 lbs of good weight for SDE

Burke (So): 6'6 245 - good frame to put on good weight for effective SDE; maybe next year

Tapp (So): 6'3 241 - Actually lost weight since HS; that might not be a bad thing to tear down then build up

The ones that have the body frames to become ideal SDEs: Sorrell, Burk, Tapp,  Except for Sorrell, all the rest are WDE size right now. Akana & Walton are LB size right now.
Burton said they will try Bledsoe at SDE and move Finkley to Buck for Spring.  SDE - Sorrell & Bledsoe / WDE - Finkley & Burke.

Texas 2023 schedule finally released

  • Sept. 2: vs. Rice
  • Sept. 9: at Alabama
  • Sept. 16: vs. Wyoming
  • Sept. 23: at Baylor
  • Sept. 30: Kansas
  • Oct. 7: Oklahoma (Dallas)
  • Oct. 21: at Houston
  • Oct. 28: BYU
  • Nov. 4: Kansas State
  • Nov. 11: at TCU
  • Nov. 18: at Iowa State
  • Nov. 24: Texas Tech

No OSU or WV, adds Houston and BYU

4 BIG12 home games. 5 if you count Ou game which is officially a home game.

Doesn't mention what a 2024 schedule would look like if TX and 0u stick around.  I assume we would play 5 of the nine teams again, plus OSU, WV Cincinnati and Central Florida.

That makes sense

CORRECTED:  I misread your statement the first time

Collins might be the answer at SDE. Seems like I remember him looking good vs Baylor.
maybe but I doubt it. Collins being at 300 lbs for 2022 will likely be bigger in 2023. He is already too big for SDE. In a three man set, Collins can move out to the 4i (which looks like SDE) and still have B gap responsibility

Lots of discussion on OB about Quins health after the Bama game. They say he made throws against Bama that he never did after coming back....effortless frozen ropes that we never saw again.....

The question is...was Quinn ever healthy?

Well, damn. I was selfishly hoping for a road game at UCF!

Bama, OU, BYU are the three toughest imo. Baylor, Houston, and ISU could be trap games. KState loses a lot as does TCU but should be well coached so who knows. Overall it looks like a pretty favorable schedule to win the conference then ride out of town and into the SEC.

0U only has one game in Texas in 2023 and that being the RRR.  They have SMU & TCU at home.  the dont play UH, BU, TTU, Rice or UTEP, etc on the schedule at all.  That's not going to help recruiting. They wanted to leave the Big8 and bring together the Big12 specifically to make more money and have a better presence in Texas.

osu plays only one game in Texas as well and that is at UH

Baylor 8 home games and only 4 away?

KSU @ oSu on a Friday night?  what's that about?

yeah, I've said that all season after the Bama game. There are videos out showing QE's NFL level throws during the Bama game but he never looked the same the rest of the season. I think he was never really healthy but I think it also got into his head.
